GREAT, ANOTHER SHOT!

I have returned with news I did not want to hear. More daily shots. I now take Levimier twice a day, Novolog after each meal, and a new one called  Byetta 5 before dinner as well as one in the morning if my fasting sugar levels are way high. 120 carbs a day intake. Just how little is that? Grab a box of crackers and read the box. My A1C was close to 15 so drastic measures have to be taken now. I have nerve damage in my lower legs now as well as my feet and the goal is to stop damage in the kidneys, eyes, and heart since I already have 3 heart stents as well. Bleak times. I must win this battle because I don't want to die and leave my wife alone. Peace out.

Sounds awfully bad - I'm wondering why you're taking Levimir twice daily...it's indicated for once daily dosage. The Novolog manages those mealtime spikes...not sure what the Byetta is doing above and beyond those two. Keep an eye out for Victoza. It's our new GLP1 compound that is currently under evaluation at the FDA. We're hoping for approval to launch later this year. I can't go into details, but your doctor will be able to tell you more about them. Good luck!

For the non-medical out there - an A1c of 15 is pretty impressive. I'll have folks present as a new diabetic in the low 200s at a 9 or so. It should be around 7 (6.5 for some recommendations). But, rev's making changes. This is awesome! Levemir's a good drug - controls sugars and helps weight loss, compared to some of the other insulins. As you push that dose up, you will need the Novolog (rapid acting) less and less. Byetta's also a good drug for promoting normalization of glucose and satiety after eating. It can go to 10 units twice a day, if needed. This is the most stat-heavy RPG you'll face. Number crunch and even the odds, rev. You can do it.
