Too bad our students here in American are not this involved in HELPING rather than trying to undermine our efforts in Iraq.

LOL. Students here don't have to undermine our efforts in Iraq...the U.S. Government's doing that all by itself!

How about the Government sends our GI's the body armor they need and properly reinforced Humvees first, then maybe backrubs from students. - BAT

Nothing is perfect in our government nor in war. You can say that we didn't need to go - but aren't we fighting terrorists in Iroaq. Iraq is roughly the size of CA and has approx 30,000,000 people, of those, only 10,000 are against what the US is doing. Shouldn't the millions be able to decide what is going to happen in Iraq, rather than the terrorists? I really didn't want to get involved in this discussion. But the body armor issue was years ago. If you want to focus on that only, it's not understandable why we went to Iraq. I do not accept the reasons for going there, but I won't blame the "government" and definately won't blame the soldiers for going where they can fight real terrorists away form US soil. As far as colleges and universities go, they are a great place for radical ideas and liberal thinking - which if implemented will not work and create more problems than solve (most of them).

Good post. The only comment I'll make is that it is true that our best are killing and dying in Iraq, but we will NEVER know if doing this may have prevented the dying (ala 9/11) from occurring here. All the Muslim terrorists in the world seem to have migrated to Iraq so they can kill Americans.

Humvees were never designed to be armoured vehicles in the first place. All of the armor plating is retrofit.

Brad - we're not fighting terrorists in Iraq. The government and the media call them "insurgents", but that's a label thrown on everyone fighting U.S. Forces, including the people of Iraq, in order to villify them. Hell, Iraqi soccer players said that if they weren't playing in the Olympics, they'd be fighting U.S. Forces. They weren't Al Quada trained, either. And most undergraduate/graduate students are "left leaning" because when you apply education and critical thought to socioeconomic issues, it leads you toward tolerance and anti-war sentiments. Imagine that.

Yeah - imagine a world without war... it won't happen that way. Again - why do you keep quoting the minority in Iraq? Pay attention to the news, they don't want you to know what is really going on in Iraq. They are only interested in showing you what the MINORITY of the millions of people want. Anything anti - US they can put on the air, they will. As far as socio-economic issues - you can implement them all you want, but if there are people in the world that want to destroy the US, those policies will be worthless until we are safe. I am a moderate, but I cannot be anti-war because our enemies are ready to use war (terrorism) against us. How do we stop them? I am not one for ignoring someone screaming that they want to kill us and destroy our way of life.

I don't mind left-leaning people. I just wish our Universities would present just the facts and let the students make up their own minds. The fact is, alot of professors are extreme left-wing nutcases who are seemingly only there to promote their ideals. If they believe what they spew so much, why don't they run for office. I guess the old saying is true, Those who can, do, those who can't, teach.

I generally like to steer away from these topics, but brad, i believe your thinking is flawed. I'm not giving any solutions, because there are no easy fixes here, but you seem to take the position that pummelling these people into the ground if they harbor ill will towards us will stop it from happening in the future. this is a flawed idea because i believe you're recreating an anti-american atmosphere by attacking a sovereign nation, and setting up a puppet regime. We did this is Iran and look where it got us. The onloy way killing "the terrorists" would work would be through genocide/assimilation. Killing all arabs/muslims who disagree with us, will create more arabs/muslims who hate us. Not only this, but with our attacks upon shiite insurgents we strengthen their power in the region. we create martyrs, something their religion encourages. This is not to say every shiite sets out to become a martyr, but it does help a family's standing in a community. Basically, all i'm saying is left, right, it doesn't matter. both sides play the same game. only sandbox rules in the middle east will decide if peace ever returns to that area.
