Shared on Mon, 03/19/2007 - 12:28I finally renewed my GameTap subscription. So I loaded up my gamesave from Sam & Max: Episode 1. I had stopped at a really boring spot, but playing it last night was a real treat. The humor in that game is very dry, and the writing is very good. I love all of the 70's and 80's puns in there, like a character named "Brady Culture" (70's reference for a character from the 70's) and the Culture Clubhouse (80's reference to PeeWee and Boy George). When you play this game, you owe it to yourself to take a good look at the scenery. Nothing is just "there." From the price list in the Inconvenience Store to the shows on TV, every little detail is hilarious. There are even dream sequences! I'm pleased to say that Episode 1 was a complete game, too. That was really nice. I was expecting a cliffhanger.
Episodes 2-4 are also available on GameTap. Once Episode 5 is complete, the adventures will later be packed together as an anthology game commercially available. You can also download each adventure for about $9. So GameTap is not a requirement, but you have to wait for the anthology. As far as point-and-click adventures go, these games are top-notch. They're not easy, either. I did manage to get thru Episode 1 without looking up any hints, so it can be done.
