Shared on Thu, 04/19/2007 - 07:21I saw a lot of negative comments about both Gyruss and 3-D Mini-Golf on Major Nelson's Blog. First off, if you like the demos, you like the games. Focus on gameplay rather than graphics and sound. Here's why:
1) Gyruss: In the demo you can play the first three levels. You can't access settings on the main menu in the demo. You can in the actual game. When you buy the full game, you can change both the graphics and sound from the main menu to the originals. Most of the negatives were that you couldn't in the demo. I felt they should have let you, being as you're limited to 3 levels. Fear not, nostalgia lives.
2) 3D Ultra Minigolf: This is not your father's 3D Ultra Minigolf. I haven't played this in about 5 years, but back then the courses didn't have a golfer avatar, nor did they have full 3D. When you buy the full version, you can make your own holes. Also, all of the courses are unlockable and do not require any further purchase. Later on, I expect the DLC will be new courses in the same environments. Creating a hole is not as versatile as I'd like. You are limited to a single, generic theme. You are also limited to a 4x4 grid. Within that grid, you may put tees, straights, corners, holes, and "powerups." Powerups are things like "vacuum hole" and "free putt." Each cell of the grid is pretty large when you actually try the course out. The best part is that you may use these custom holes in a custom XBLive game. Repeat after me: "Custom Content." Good.
I downloaded the Mini-golf game from the "Purchase Full Version" within the game. At that moment, I got an "Achievement Unlocked." I thought for sure it was for buying the game, but it was for finishing the 3 trial holes.
