Shared on Thu, 11/29/2012 - 00:10Took my wife and my daughter to see Rush at the American Airline Center in Dallas tonight. If you've been to Dallas then you know how truly unkind traffic can be. The concert started at 7:30, which means we caught the tail end of rush hour. The "Platinum Parking" section, where we were designated to park, was labeled as "Audi Park." No, that's not fucking misleading at all...I actually enjoyed circling the arena three times for no good reason.
Rush started out strong, leading off with Subdivisions, Big Money, and a few classics before laying down nearly the entire Clockwork Angels album, then finished strong with YYZ, Spirit of the Radio, Tom Sawyer, and the 2112 trifecta of Overture, Temples of Syrinx, and Grand Finale. Unfortunately Geddy wasted his voice on the Clockwork Angels material and finished with a whimper, vocally speaking...however, his bass playing never wavered.Visually, the band has adopted a steampunk style animation to accompany the music, along with the more traditional pyro, fireworks, and lightshow. Peart had three drum solos and Alex looked like Gary Busey.
We had a good time but I can't help feeling a bit unfulfilled after 3 hours of Rush...no Red Barchetta, Working Man, Limelight, Fly by Night, nothing from Hemispheres, Power Windows, or Grace Under Pressure. If you're gonna see Rush this year I would suggest beefing up on the new material because you're gonna hear a whole lot of it.
