Shared on Wed, 07/05/2006 - 18:44Well theres a first time for everything. And this is the first time for my very own personal blog. Whoopideedoo.
Im always amazed at how people describe themselves in these things, especially their first ones. "Im a blah blah blah, be interested in me, please." Well here goes my attempt at putting my thoughts down in written form.
Im a gamer. Ive been playing video games since my Dad brought home an Atari 2600. One of my earliest gaming memories is playing Asteroids on a rainy Saturday until I "flipped" the score counter. This of course made my mom so very happy, as I spent the entire day staring at a black screen with various white shapes floating by just waiting for me to pulverize them.
I split my time between 3 gaming platforms. Im primarily a PC gamer, bought my first PC in 94, but I had an Apple 2e with a shoebox full of bootleg games growing up. I cut my teeth on the Infocom classics (The Zork series, Nord and Bert Couldnt Make Head Nor Tails Out of It - one of my crowning gaming achievements was beating that one the summer of 8th grade, The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy - couldnt ever figure out how to make real tea, bugs me to this day). My early PC gaming experiences were with Descent, Crusader: No Remorse, Wing Commander 1-4, Sim City 2000, and some early Janes flight simulator games.
I also play on the XBox 360. Look me up on Live, Gamertag: SciDad23. I play NBA2k6, Oblivion, Burnout, Call of Duty, and a little Table Tennis. Waiting eagerly for NCAA 2007 and Maddel 2007 to finally come to next gen (Ive scraped the residue of Madden 2006 from my mind completely, sticky little sucker that one was).
Finally I do have a launch day PS2 that Ive fixed about 5 times (Dang DREs). Ive adjusted the laser in that thing so many times it barely reads games anymore. But as long as it works with Guitar Hero, im cool. God of War was the last great game I played on the PS2, and by the time God of War 2 comes out, I hope to be one of the nitwits to drop 700 smackers on the Blu-Ray Player/Gaming console from Sony, but well see. The Wii looks interesting. I just cant see bringing myself to asking for the "Wii" at my local Gamecrazy.
Ive been a subscriber of PC Gamer magazine for almost 10 years now. Still one of the best paper mags on the planet for gaming. Gotta admit though, I was thouroughly impressed with 2old2plays free mag. Really well done stuff. Beats the crap out of Computer Gaming Monthly any day of the week and twice on Tuesdays (always hated Tuesdays for some reason).
Im married, just over 3 years now. Wife doesnt game at all. The closest she got was reading the text while I played and beat Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Shes a sci-fi geek like me, and we get along great. I have a new son, well relatively new, hes almost 11 months old (20 months if you count the "utero time"). Between the two of them, I get my game on around 10 PM each night.
As for my career, Ill whine about that later. Blogged enough here for a virgin. I figured Id be done in 3 seconds, kinda like real life first times!
Sheesh.
