Emotions of Sports

Just a brief post and it is actually something that Codemunkee has referenced before.

Took a break from my weekend work yesterday to sit down and watch the Eagles take on the Giants.  Now being a Philly guy living in CT I don't get an opportunity every week to see them on TV.  I went for DirecTV last year (which would have been heaven) but there are too many trees around to get a good signal.

The game was going great as the Eagles were doing absolutely everything right and thrashing the Giants.  But for some reason with 10 minutes left in the game, I began to get nervous.  Looks like I ended up being right as the Eagles blew a 24-7 lead and ending up losing in overtime.  Any loss by my football team is tough but is even harder when it is a divisional oppenent.  To top it off my boss is a Giants season ticket holder so any time the two teams play each other, there is extra emotion.

Happiness turned into nervousness which turned in to complete anger.  It is an amazing thing how sports can carry you through so many emotions over a 3 to 4 hour period.  I went back to priming our new bathroom while having such an intense anger at how my team lost the game.  Even today I am still a bit bothered over the game and my boss is certainly not making it any easier (in otherwards Giants fan out there, I am already getting hammered and he does not need help...lol).

To me football brings out the strongest emotions since there are only 16 games in the season.  Each game is so critical and since you have to wait a week for the next one, you carry the loss for a few days after the game.  So I will carry on with life since football is not the end all, and hope we can get back to winning ways next Sunday.

The secret is to pick a team that has low expectations. If you pick a team that frequently has high expectations and fails to deliver, it feels a lot worse than if you know at the beginning your team will suck.

yeah Mike you have a point, being a Broncos fan...I am pretty much going to be dissapointed until Terrell Davis and Elway come back in some weird time warp thing to play

Trust me i understand. Growing up outside D.C. I was born a Redskins FanBoy. Watching the past 12 years have been very painful. Now I live in the mountains of NC and get to watch maybe 6 games a year and listen to the rest on the internet. So you'll understand my disappointment when my Skins beat the Eagles in every category except the one that counts, blowing a chance to win it with 4 min. left to go. Oh well I think we can both hope for high first round draft picks next year.

See that's the problem, you guys have this super history and you're used to winning. Cards fans are just used to drinking beer and not giving a crap.
