Typical Day at Work

I was in the middle of some office gossip with a coworker when the boss walked in, effectively putting the conversation on pause. Now bored, I went back to my desk and decided to work on today’s blog while disguising my activities with some creative paper pushing. I really wasn’t into the whole blog thing today and wasn’t going to post anything until the coworker I was talking to e-mailed me. I decided to post the e-mail thread here since I got a chuckle out of it. She can be a bit mischevious. Names have been changed to protect the innocent…

 

COWORKER: He should really go back out into the plant so we can finish our conversation. I would also like to spend the rest of the afternoon on the net. I would also like to prank Bill. Maybe Tracy, too.

 

ME:  Tell me about it. I just want to work on my daily blog entry. Having trouble coming up with a good topic.

 

COWORKER: how about.........the joy that prank calling people brings. Even as adults. If I was to start calling Tracy or Bill right now....Even if I just sat there silently while they repeatedly say "hello.......hello......is anyone there?........hello.......hello....." I would forget about my cold and laugh and snicker and laugh and laugh. And repeat the process until the idiot on the other line finally gets irritated and sends the calls to voicemail. Then I would have to find a new recipient. To hear the pure irritation, yet determination to get a response from the caller by repeating "hello's" brings me great joy. I also enjoy the tone of stupidity in their voice, while they really think there might be substance to the calls. I think it's a perfect subject for your blog. As soon as we can....we will prank. I say "we" because there is no "I" in prank.

COWORKER: Seriously, I've stopped turning around to listen. I'm just nodding and "uh huhing" with my back turned. She just told me she bought new underwear and she won't be wearing them again because her thighs are too big. How did I possibly convey the message that I was interested in that information?????
