Snuphy’s a leap year baby. On non leap year years like 2009, I do my best to milk my birthday for all I can get. After all, if I don’t get an actual day on which to celebrate, why not claim two days? Or more?
I started by blowing off work Friday afternoon. I treated myself to hot as hell chicken wings and a pitcher of beer at a bar. I went home, cracked open some Natty Lts, and began my evening which went something like this:
4 to 6 - CoD4 double xp w/Nattiness
6 to 12 – lan party, shot at friends in CoD5 w/plentiful Nattiness
12 to 1 – online with 2o2p friends, halo3, got my ass kicked, Nattiness
1 to 3 something – more CoD4 double xp, more Nattiness
3 something to 9:30 - sweet, sweet sleep
With the exception of the four hours I spent at work, it was an outstanding day. And it was the day before my birthday.
I attended a daddy-daughter preschool event Saturday morning with my favorite four year old. I’m always humbled when my kids get way, way, way over the moon ecstatic simply because I show up to do something just with them. This was one of those occasions. She sat on my lap during circle time, she skipped up to the front of the room to do their weather chart, my quite kid talked her ass off during craft time, she smiled the whole time we were there, and she was still talking about it when I put her to bed that night. Definitely the highlight of my birthday.
Mrs. Snuphy rolled out some seafood for my bday dinner. Broiled crab cakes, honey-lime salmon, and shrimp cocktail were followed by gifts and warm apple pie. I got a 12+1 month xbox live subscription card, some cutting boards, an Alton Brown salt crock (aka sodium chloride containment unit), and some cheap sunglasses. Good stuff.
Sunday morning I got the most amazing gift. I got to sleep in. And it was absolutely everything I thought it would be. Afterwards, my girls took me out for a late breakfast. We all played candyland last night. Mrs. Snuphy let me win at cribbage after our daughters went to bed. My weekend ended with the traditional birthday nookie.
Snuphy woke up this morning a very happy man.
