My FL Friends

My friends have lives, damn them. By the time I get home from work, eat a meal, get some quality time with my family, and the kids get to bed, it’s 9pm. Most of the dudes on my meager friends list have already gamed several hours by then, and have moved on to other endeavors. A couple go to bed before 10, presumably with female companionship. One goes to bars in search of female companionship. But most end up watching Netflix, presumably with female companionship. It’s not uncommon for me to light up my 360 to find half of my friends list online, and not one single one of them playing a game.

As a result, my feeble mind has been toying around with two observations. First, the NXE is turning out to be a disappointment for me. The Vista like dashboard is prettier than its predecessor, and provides better views of one’s themes, but it does not seem to provide me with any impressive improvement in functionality. I have always been, and continue to be, annoyed, possibly even insulted, by the cute, gimmicky crap that is called my avatar. But most significantly, the addition of Netflix to the lineup has affected my gaming. My friends are now watching movies instead of blowing me up.

Secondly, it is becoming clearer that joining a clan here at 2o2p would only improve my gaming experiences. It would certainly improve the likelihood of finding folks online with which to play. I think it would also expand my horizons. Those copies of GoW2, Forza2, and Halo that are collecting dust while I incessantly support the CoD franchise might actually get some of the attention they deserve if I knew of other friendly, semi-mature folks playing those titles.

Commitment has been the only thing holding me back. I have the tendency to go all in when I decide to do something. So I’ve been evaluating my gaming tendencies to make sure that a new venue won’t interfere with any non-gaming activities, like nookie with the old lady for instance. I think I almost have it worked out.. Or at least I have almost reached the appropriate level of delusion at which my conscience justifies clannage regardless of consequence.  Either way, I'm very close to having to tackle the task of joining a clan.  But which one?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I look forward to your FRs. I haven't bumped into any body parts in the Natty. But for $14 a 30 pk, it's only a matter of time.

Don't listen to Bludjun about that IceHouse swill being so much better than Natty. He only pays $15-16 for a 30 pack of IceHouse. I drank plenty of Nasty Light while in Grad School. It's not so bad. :)

CLAN...the other 4 letter word! Actually it's not a bad word at all, but you do need to know what your expectations of the clan are, what the clans expectations of you are, and what your preference for clan size is. I started in a very large (100+) Legacy clan and now I am running a very small clan not focused on a single game but more on the games and the people in the clan, which I enjoy much more. You need to see what works for you. Most of the clans have designated game nights that you can join in so that you can evaluate them and they you. It's kind of like dating again. :)

However, the "payoff" is a bit different in the end. ;) Don't be in too much of a rush. I'd recommend looking for people you play with and get along with and see what clan(s) they are in. Most clans do give member referrals a bit more weight and expedience than somebody that is unknown. Anyway, l'll end my long windedness so you can get others opinions. Oh and I'll send you a FR since I'd don't use the 360 for Netflix and presently am lacking in female companionship. That and if you drink Nasty Light you fit right in with Blujun and his Ice House.

Depends on what you like. 2old2pwn plays lots of different games, tends to talk and joke as much as they play. Most of our members are so so players at best. The discussion in the forum is as much about our lives as it is about our games. I think we have a reputation for being kind of snobbish, but I think that is just because most don't enjoy get beaten up by level 40's. My experience with them has been overwhelmingly warm. They are also VERY laid back about when, how often and what you play with them. So long as you play with them once in a while. I can't say much for other clans, I don't think I have met any clans that I really disliked. (individuals...perhaps) Anyone else care to describe their clan?

PCP is a large shooter based clan currently playing W@W. L4D has gotten quite a bit of support there also. Since we're large and have members from the GMT timezone to PST, there are always people online. In fact we have 3 FoF tags to try to keep track of all our members....
