I was a hard core PC gamer back then, I started on Dial UP, then went to dual channel ISDN, and finally a cable modem. PC's and game consoles have came a long way sense back then.
But that's not whats bugging me today! It really bothers me that there was a time when gamers use to show mutual respect for each other and most games required teamwork. I can remember playing Original Everquest for the first time. I wanted to get in a exp party but there was a waiting list. Believe it or not but people use to take turns at experience camp sites. The same thing held true for end game loot. There was a waiting list for the named mobs in the game. Games like Counterstrike use to require people to work as a team to complete a objective. And almost everyone on Xbox Live had and used a headset.
Fast forward to today! Pick any MMORPG and people will camp on top of you, kill steal you etc. Anything they can do to get one over on you, they will do it! Next lets talk about MAG. The game is a total cluster fuck. The game is a team work game, but no one uses any teamwork. 60%+ of the players don't use a Mic. Everyone runs in every direction doing their own thing. And the objectives totally get ignored. Why Zipper would try and bring out a teamwork game in todays day and age is beyond me. There only setting up their self for a failure! And as far a Live or PSN goes no one uses the headset anymore. Your lucky if there is 1 person in the room besides you with a headset.
My father inlaw once told me "You adapt or you die". The problem is I am having trouble letting go of the past memories. I miss respectful gamers and people who use to work as a team. And I am not talking about clan mates. I am talking about random strangers you meet in a room playing like they have known you the last 10 years.
I have a disability so I don't work. My clan is one of the best clans I ever had the honor to play with in all my life. Everyone in the clan is great. Everyone in the clan has their own lives and can not be on as much as I can. Which leads me to playing a lot of nights by myself. This is where the "Adapt or you die" part comes in. My beautiful wife is buying me a MW2 360 console for Xmas. So I am going to try and join a really active 360 clan and play with them on the days I am not playing with my PS3 clan. I know many new memories await. Hopefully they will help me forget the past and I can move on!
