I run into people like that guy in the video every single day....you ask them a couple of questions and they respond like that. I just call the state police and let them deal with it.
Sorry budman...being told to 'answer or else' when you have no legal leg to stand on isn't cool. He was not obligated by law to answer those questions, he didn't have to answer those questions....and not answering those questions is NOT against the law. It's people that think that you have to tell anyone wearing a god damned uniform whatever they want to know that are letting our country go to hell. Know your rights people and make sure you vote for people who want you to keep them, because one day when you are sitting in a detainment center for owning the wrong book you are going to be wishing you had had a backbone and a brain.

THe problem is that most of the jackasses don't know the law themselves and become fucking irate when you question their authority. I'm not going to answer questions because I have no legal obligation to do so. If you are going to be any sort of law enforcement office, you damn well better to know the law. I will not, under any circumstances, succumb to bullying. Especially when it's at the hands of a an ignorant, disrespectful government employee. The problem seem to be that we're going up our liberties to preserve our way of life which, ironically enough is a life of liberty and freedom from government oppression. It doesn't matter if it's a small, si,ple question. If you have no right to ask me that question, I'm not fucking answering.
Oh, and BIG fucking bullshit to John Stossel for his "this is what you get when you have government-run capitalism... one step closer to fascism." Right, because all of this just fucking started in the last few months. Not like our civil liberties haven't been under attach since shortly after 9/11. No, not at all. It's not as if our government suspended habeas corpus, instituted the warrantless wiretap of millions of American citizens, put the TSA on the "job." No, it's all the fault of Obama and the government reaction to the collapse of the banking system. Fucking moron. If you're going to be enraged with our government (as we should be) have the intellectual decency to spread the blame around and not just on your own, personal boogey man.
You are right. You don't have to answer those questions. Those guys did do it wrong because they got baited into it. That is why when I run into those problems I just call the state police and let them deal with it. I'm not going to get into it. People like that give us a bad name.

No, they weren't baited into anything. He stayed calm and respectful. He didn't resort to raised voices or name calling (unlike TSA ). He asked a simple question."Am I required by law to answer that question?" There are only three correct answers.
1) "No, you are not. It would be helpful if you did, but it is your right as an American citizen to refuse to divulge personal information without further cause on our part."
2) "Yes, you are compelled to answer that question by thus and such a statute. If you refuse to answer the question we are authorized to place you under arrest at which time you may request the presence of a lawyer."
Or three, the most reasonable response and the least likely you'll ever hear
3) "I don't know. Let me seek the advice of a superior to determine what your rights are."
The long and short of it is that I don't have to justify why I'm doing what I'm doing unless it's illegal. I'm free to do what I please as long as it's not hurting anybody else. Because that's what it means to be an American. I don't have to show my papers and I don't have to consent to being detained unlawfully. I don't have to fear being pulled into a windowless room and questioned. Because this is not cold-war era East Germany.
The problem is that the moment you show any signs that your not going to bend over and spread your cheeks, TSA get's riled and immediately becomes abusive or threatening. It's not just TSA. There are bad eggs everywhere. But TSA agents receive the least amount of training in relation to the amount of authority they wield of any law enforcement branch and absolutly awful oversight. They simply don't know the laws. They just know that people are supposed to list to them or else. Yeah, there are some perfectly respectful, capable TSA agents. But they're the exception in my experience.
If TSA want's to be treated like professionals, they need to start acting and performing like professionals. Not government- sanctioned bullies.
