This would be a hell of a lot funnier if it wasn't so true.

If you do much traveling you have to wonder what exactly are the qualifications for becoming a TSA employee.

What do you expect from a job that tops out at around $35000 a year. You aren't really getting the best and the brightest applying. Candidates need to apply on-line and must meet the minimum requirements under the law. Candidates are then assessed, and if hired, are required to successfully complete 40 hours of classroom instruction and 60 hours of on-the-job training. The entire process takes several weeks. All candidates must meet minimum qualification requirements established by law including: U.S. citizen or U.S. national. High school diploma, GED or equivalent, or 1 year of security or aviation screening experience. English proficiency. Pass a background check. - from the TSA website

You are now on the no fly list. Feel free to get up and walk about your bedroom.

Alright...I wasn't going to post but here I go. You have a lot of dedicated people from all walks of life working there. I work with people that were...lawyers, doctors, teachers and a lot of the other people have college degrees and they do this because they believe in what they are doing. Granted you are going to get some bad apples but I would say 99.9 percent of the people that I work are giving 110% everyday. Called names, shoes thrown at us, spitting, and that is in a regular day. And the job pays more than 35k a year....that is starting out and not topping out. The christmas bomber guy got on a plane overseas....

My main complaint is the inconsistency. When I fly with my son and we have his diabetes meds and equipment, every airport handles it differently. Some allow the ice packs, some confiscate them. Some will hand inspect, others get pissed and insist on X-rays. We are just a couple idiots trying to follow the recommendations of the doctor. Some TSA agents are great...friendly, explain things to us, listen, etc. Others are rude and act like we are disturbing their naps. Sure, that behavior's typical in any profession. But the rules should be consistent airport to airport.

I see the same problem in the TSA as I do in so many other law enforcement jobs. The pay will not bring in college educated or higher intelligence people. Yes the pay may top out well but it takes years to get to there from starting at 35K. I worked for the BOP, Bureau of Prisons, after you have made it there 5 years you can be making upwards of 60K but the problem is no most people who have degrees or experience or even good common sense can make more somewhere else. TSA has me on a no fly list, they have someone with my name. If I want to fly from memphis to Nashville I had better take a passport other wise I am not getting on an airplane. Want to here the kicker-------I used to manage an Airport before, during and after 9/11. So tell me common sense is not a rare commodity in the TSA!!!!!
