I've been wanting to see this documentary ever since I first heard of it, and I just found out that it is being released on TV this month on NatGeo.

For those of you who don't know what Restrepo is, it's a 90 min documentary that was filmed by Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington.  They film at what is considered the most dangerous outpost located in Afghanistan.

Here's a better description:

RESTREPO is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley. The movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, "Restrepo," named after a platoon medic who was killed in action. It was considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military. This is an entirely experiential film: the cameras never leave the soldiers; there are no interviews with generals or diplomats. The only goal is to make viewers feel as if they have just been through a 90-minute deployment. This is war, full stop. The conclusions are up to you.

One of the prominently featured stories is that of SSGT. Sal Giunta, who will be the first living Medal of Honor receipient since Vietnam.

This should be a really good show.

I've seen marines and they look like Lebron James and a chubby girl with a door breaching shotgun. :)

"In recounting that tragic day, Giunta is keen to remind me about his fellow soldiers. “Every single person that I’ve been with deserves to wear it, deserves to . . .They are just as much of me as I am. This isn’t a one-man show.” I ask him about the medal, which President Obama presented to him at the White House on November 16. “It sounds really awesome in theory, but what’s it worth—Brennan? Mendoza?” " I think the last sentence in this paragraph says everything there is to say about this man.(and if you don't know who Brennan or Mendoza is - I'm not telling you, go read the article and let your heart swell with pride at the actions of these men)

I read the book 'War' by Junger and it was amazing. I heard about this at the end of that book. I wonder if I will be able to see it anywhere than on NatGeo since I don't get that channel...stupid Comcast.
