Shared on Tue, 07/24/2007 - 07:28My wife and I just got a FUN email from the airline we will call North Worst yesterday. It seems that due to whatever, they decided to cancel our flight home from Las Vegas on the 3rd of August.
We are leaving in 6 days and booked ourselves on North Worst for one reason only, they run a non-stop from Memphis to Las Vegas. I work in the airline industry and have traveled a ton in the last 20 years. At one time I looked at going on a jet like most people do picking out a sandwich, basically which one do you want. I have learned a few things and here is one I am sure many of you have figured out. If a non-stop is available, TAKE IT. There is almost no chance of lost luggage, there is not a worry about weather impacting your connection, and you get there fast.
We were scheduled out of LAS at midnight back into MEM at 5:26am on Sat morning. They do a NOOP on the original and STICK us on a flight thru Detroit then into Memphis. Now instead of basking in the airlines glow for 3.5 hours, we would get to be in their arms for a total of 9 hours! I mean who wouldn't be happy, what with all the comfort on todays airliners. The food, the service the huge roomy seats! HA!!! Today's airlines are no better than a bus ride on Greyhound. People are rude, space is cramp, and we have to stop everywhere, making a simple journey a difficult one.
Just before 9/11 I was in Las Vegas and was getting ready to go out on the town. I watched a show on Dateline NBC about air rage and the decline of service in the airlines. Now after 9/11 I was talking to a family member who had just flown and she was saying how the flight was empty and the security was so tight and I had to laugh. I told her that this would not last. There are more and more people in the US and the world, people live farther and farther from home and have come to expect a fast ride on the airlines to get them to and from home. Things will go back to pre 9/11 mayhem, but now, with all the added security.
Just needed to vent.. maybe we will hit a jackpot and get a lear jet from the Casino back home!
