Spidey

Shared on Mon, 04/05/2010 - 13:39

I have recently started having problems with my Samsug 52" LCD HDTV. When I first turn it on, I get some distortion and darkness in the top left corner. If I gently push on the top left, the problem goes away. The tv also has started flickering and showing horizontal lines across it and distorting the image. Pushing the top gently also will get rid of the flickering and horizontal lines but that does come back randomly. Below is a link to some images. If you have any idea, please let me know via PM (so I get a notification) Thanks!

Whatever it is it don't look good. I would imagine the panel is toast. How old is the TV? Has it taken a fall? It looks like what happens if you damage a LCD display by scratching it or if it gets hit by something.

It's 2 1/2 years old and hasn't fallen at all. What is weird, is it all gets better after a gentle push on the top left corner.

might be bad solder due to the locations of circuit board assembly locations. should be warranty i think!

It sounds like it is separating across the top of the screen or is loose inside. How handy are you? You might want to see if it is, but that means checking the housing and taking the back off and check the internal supports and/or clamps. If the Warranty road is a dead end, that is.

Can you set your tv to different resolutions and stuff? Id' try different resolutions and drifferent refresh frequencies just to compile more data to see what works and what doesn't. You coudl also try the adjustment where you can move the edges in and bring your viewing angle in closer to the middle leaving more gap to the border. It's just stuff to try and see what happens. BUt it doens't look good, something's most likely burning out.
