It's the little things that kids seem to love the most

You know, there have been times that I've dropped thousands of dollars on my kids for large items...four wheelers, motorcycles, go-karts, etc. and things like that are forgotten pretty quick. I mean, they appreciate them, but it's not something they will always remember and talk about. I've found that it's the little things that they remember....and it's the little things that make you their hero.

A couple nights ago I decided that it was time to get rid of my winter coat...also known as shaving my head. Since it hadn't been cut for a while I figured i whack a bunch off with scissors before pulling out the clippers. Right after I made the first cut, the idea hit me. I went into the girls's room and asked them if they wanted to have a little fun. They gave me that "what are you up to?" look and followed me into the kitchen, where I threw a towel over my shoulders, handed them each a pair of scissors and told them to go to town. You would have thought I handed them a winning lottery ticket! They had more fun cutting my hair than you could possibly imagine. My youngest had so much fun that she called her grandmother, who is on vacation in Florida, just to tell her about it.

It was one of those things that I knew they'd enjoy...and it's not like they could mess anything up since I was shaving it anyway. Things like that are the things they'll always remember, so keep it in mind when you're doing something you think they might enjoy. Like if you're doing some type of construction work around the house. They're always eager to help, but in most cases they really cant because it's either something that they couldn't handle, something that they could possibly mess up, or you just want to get it done and letting them help would slow you down. Every once in a while you find something that just doesn't matter all that much...where a mistake wouldn't be a big issue. Instead of rushing to get done, take a break and let them feel useful. Kids LOVE being able to help with anything when they're little, so if you find an opportunity to let them help, you'll will most likely make them very happy.

Yes, I know... I'm getting a little thin up top!

This will definitely be something they will remember a long way into the future! Good thinking.

They will remember that forever. Suggest it for Gran as well.
