The observation: my keen powers of perception showed me today that at least 7 of the top 25 blogs this month are by women. And almost an equvalent amount are in the top 25 of all time are by women.
So why do we think that might be? In a gross generalization, men tend not to be as communicative as women. But this can't be the only reason because posting a ton doesn't get you a high rank, since it is based on views. So maybe it is a combination of posting more and posting more interesting things, so that people follow your blog. Which helps.
I think the other thing is the avatar/pic that is used to identify the blog. Good advertaising sells - I would bet we are more likely to click through the interesting avatars at the top of the page. Most of the women here post something recognizeably feminine and I think most of us guys, myself included, click through to the blog in the first place just to check it out (and because we are all dogs at heart). And over time, we tend to follow your blogs because most guys' lives aren't that interesting, but it is fascinating to see what happens in the mysterious lives of women. It is even more fun because you are gamers and women - so there is even a point of connection.
So anyway, that is my observation and thoughts on the subject. My conclusion is that some things never change, but at least on this site, it seems like most people here are pretty respectful.
As a group, this community seems pretty cool. I wouldn't have guessed that a community based on two factors of the love of gaming AND age would be such a cool place. Kudos to the founders, the mods who keep it running and to everyone who participates.
