Fuck THAT!

I just finished up the 6 hour task of getting my student loans consolidated to avoid making 8 different payments a month. Talk about a fucking task that you need to be educated to figure out. It probably wouldn't have been so bad had I not waited 8 days until my grace period ended. I totally miscalculated the ability of the government to figure out something in private-sector time. Apparently they need 30-45 days. Bastards. This whole task would probably be relatively easy if my Stafford loan lenders had not all dropped out of the Federal Family Education Loan program. It was nice back in the spring when I found out that my last disbursement was cancelled since the lender went tits-up. Assholes. I had to scrounge up the money within a month to pay my last semester so I could get my godamn 2nd expensive-as-shit piece of paper that says how smart I am. (It was worth it no matter how mad this all makes me).

Well fuck you federal loan program. I pwned your ass, figured out your shitty website, made 15 phone calls to assholes that will only talk to me between 8 am and 4 pm even though they would probably prefer I had a job to pay their sorry asses during those hours. And screw you dude that can barely speak english which forced me to ask you to spell a couple words because I couldn't understand what the fuck you were saying. I don't know which one of us should be more embarrassed by that.

What a waste of a fucking Friday and Monday night.

Now for something completely hilarious....

At work we're having a ugly holiday sweater day. Except, they had to market it as a "super-festive sweater" or some other bullshit to not offend the dumb fucks that actually wear this garbage...Anywaaaaays - I found this gem on eBay. It was too expensive, the bid was ending, and I don't have the guts to pull it off anyway. But it makes me laugh because it's pure awesome.

Happy Frickin Holidays. I'm off to do something that doesn't piss me off now.

That's funny. I'm dealing with the student loan people right now. The whole concept of me going back to school seems to baffle them.

ouch. But you'll come through. For the longest time I saved that statement that said I owed ZERO on the student loan. Next goal: mortgage burning party! In Canada we have an amazing show called "Till Debt Due Us Part". They take couples in financial straights, and some whiz band financial expert gets them on the right track. (hint, spend LESS than you make!!1!!) Anyway: one was a young couple who had student loans up the wazoo. They both got "high falutin'" type degrees, took a year longer each to do them, then decided to work doing what they loved, not what was practical. The guy was in retail selling bikes and had a few thousand dollars invested in some bikes of his own. That sort of thing. One of tasks they had to do was figure out their student loans, how much they owed (and here's the kicker) what type of salary they needed to pay back the loans. Yep: they were pretty astounded to learn that the amount of money they put into their degrees meant that they had to earn over $60K each just ot pay it back. Take home lesson? Education is great. It can get you better jobs: but you had better be prepared to actually go into that field and make some of that money back!

J - Maybe my rant was misleading? My problem is a paperwork hassle to get loans consolidated into 1 monthly payment, not a financial problem of being unable to afford my education (thank jeebus). Fortunately I had the foresight to not study 16th century German woman's art.

And reading back through my blog I can see that nobody would understand what the hell I was talking about unless they have gone through the same process...But hey, that's what a rant is for!

Wow that sounds fun. My wife has student loans,,that i get to pay back. This fact really sucks. I don't have any student loans, but my degree and $5 will get you half a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Agricultural business. I feel your pain Customer service is non existent.

I understand. Did the same thing 15+ years ago and ended up with a 9% interest rate and that was GOOD at that time. It's paid off now,W00bity! I'm sure it is even more convoluted than it was back then considering the lending arena right now. My sympathies.
