I have to write a major nasty-gram...

Kind of a long story...

October/November-ish - My car starts to act funny. The radio will just die when I'm driving. It starts weird, sometimes. Or takes forever to start. The remote starter doesn't work at all...It just clicks. One night I think I'm going to be stranded and hubby just happens to be far away and unreachable...

I take my car to Honda to get an oil change, get new brakes, 2 new tires, and find out what the hell is wrong with how it starts. I spend a shit-ton of money at this damn place. I specifically bought a Civic because I absolutely HATE dealing with car problems and everyone says these things run forever with little issue. Honda has my car for a day and a half and they can't figure out the problem. They say it's probably my non-factory remote starter system and they tell me to have the installer check it out.

Fuck that - Ultimate Electronics is nearly tits-up so I just go to Best Buy to replace the Remote Starter. I mean, if Honda has my car for an entire day and they say they've looked at everything I have no reason to believe otherwise, right?

Best Buy - I pick out my new remote starter, get it installed, they go to demo it for me and it has the same problem. WTF!! I ask them to look at it further. They re-used some of the old starter's parts so I think that might be the problem.

Nope - The Best Buy dude opens the plastic cap that covers the battery terminals and they are FUCKED. They are covered in corrosion which looks like blue sugar caked everywhere. Even my non-mechanical eyes know immediately that this picture is so very wrong. Best Buy kindly cleans off the corrosion the best they can and tell me to get it looked at. The car starts perfectly. I'm pissed that I didn't really need to spend $300 on a new remote starter and that Honda is a bunch of assholes that couldn't find the problem because they clearly didn't even look for it. And their oil-change inpection sheet includes a battery test - which they obviously didn't do. But whatever...What's done is done, so I have a new starter and my car isn't having problems anymore.

Back to Honda for my next oil change and by this time there's more corrosion building up. Yep - I should have brought it in right away, but I didn't. I very kindly explain how utterly-ridiculous and unacceptable this situation is to the service guy. I even said something to the effect that "you should be ashamed that Best Buy found a problem that you couldn''t." Dude agrees that it's piss-poor and tells me that he's going to have the service manager give me a call to talk about it. Well, it's been about a month and nobody has called me. And - on this oil change they said my two back tires are fine, even though the last time they told me they need to be replaced. Those fucking assholes.

So I'm going to write a nasty-letter. Except, I'm not even going to send it to the service people. I might cc them...I'm going to send it to the Sales Manager. Because ultimately, I won't be buying a Honda for my next car because of this - so really, it's the Sales department that is getting screwed. My letter will likely end up in a trashcan, but that's okay. I'll feel better.

Happy Friday punks.

I know Prius is a Toyota, I was just pointing out that she had said was switching from a Honda to a Toyota before all of this happened, hence the bullshit call. Unfortunately timeframes are murky in blogs, so Tara gets the save. And I thought I was being clever.

Actually, the probably could have been solved if you looked over the owners manual. It does tell of how inspect the battery along with the many other things in the car. It also tells how to do simple troubleshooting tips. I understand that you're pissed off, but, the answer was in your glove box the entire time.

MJ - I understand that I should know how to do simple thing - but I don't and don't care to learn. But that does NOT in any way excuse the dealership of the responsibility for A - documenting that they checked my battery when they didn't. And 2 - holding onto my car for a day and half saying they couldn't find anything wrong when they obviously didn't even look at it. So I absolutely have a right to be pissed off.

No worries, I was fucking with you anyways which I'm sure you already know. I'm just glad you're blogging again. Some of the words that come out of your mouth just kill me, I can't stop laughing most of the time. It reminds me of my wife who will put any two cuss words together when she's pissed. It's hilarious watching her play a game and hear her get pissed and call someone an assdick.

I never go to Honda cuz they are overpriced and crappy. And I love the 60k checkup they tried to pull on me..."it's needed for proper maintanence'. The price was over $600. I have a local shop that does a great job. See if you can find someone you can trust.

ohh kashi the best way to get your point across is to keep going in for every little thing and annoy them as much as possible they get paid to deal with you not vice versa. I am never.... wait i am OFTEN not rude however on certain occasions i may have said a nastey comment or 5 but it comes down to it, Vinny in service could give a shit...... Tina in customer service could give a shit... and in the end even the sales manager does not give a shit.... I say go through the paper work pretend to purchase a vehicle then turn around and say."" OH wait this is the dealership with the SUck ASS service dept nevermind!!! that way they taste commission than have it slip away!

Unfortunately this is the problem with alot of service centers. They look for the most expensive and time consuming problems so they can charge you more instead of focusing on customer service. Honestly I have noticed that everywhere customer service has taken a back seat to p & l sheets (profit and loss). As far as revenge, there is nothing any service person hates more than the naggy nit picking customer. I would bug them atleast once a week with something. Bring it to them for any little thing. Even if you know what it is! After a while they will see you coming and try to hide or fuss that "the girl with the honda" is back!

"ultimately, I won't be buying a Honda for my next car because of this" I call bullshit. "Next car for me - a Prius. I don't even care that I'm going to look like a hippie-douche-bag. I'm playing video games dude!" Copy and paste FTW!

that sucks balls T...I would start to Google search a good Honda repair guy that is not at the dealer. Use the interwebs for more powah!!! On a side note, you can go to your local auto shop and get some batter washers. They look like little circular sponges that you put on the battery terminal between the battery and your battery cables. They help keep down corrosion, but do not prevent it.

Kade - why do you think that I made the decision to buy a Prius? This factored into it because I was deciding between the Civic Hybrid and Prius...So sorry, you can't call bullshit. =)

woot Tara-Hulk rage! "TARA SMASH" :) I love when you get all fired up, lol. (and I'm so glad there is an internet between me and you - in case I ever piss you off, hehehe). But, that truly does suck about your car. I don't understand how the never found the corrosion in the damn frist place. You brought them a car with electrical problems, methinks the battery is one of the first places you'd go over thoroughly!!! What a complete shitty service department that dealership has! Oh and @kade, Prius is Toyota, not Honda ;)

Ah - yes Jedi, I was confused with Kade's comment. Now I get it...He must have thought a Prius was a Honda product. And Jedi - my bark is probably bigger than my bite (in most situations). Meat is the one you should be scared of. Have her tell you the windshield story.
