It's been awhile...

I've been a-lurkin around...Not so much posting. Work is starting to really slow down these days so I thought I'd post a blog with some random updates.

1. As of today, I am breaking the law going to work. Yep. A little more than a month ago I got a ticket for rolling through a stop sign and not having my proof of insurance in the car. The ticket was a ridiculous $300. I figured if I just let them butt-rape me by sending them the money, they'd leave me alone. I ignored the instructions about faxing my insurance information. Apparently, not good enough. My license is suspended for a month. And in case you're wondering - I do carry insurance. I just forgot to fax the proof in time (and I throw away those little cards all the time). I have driving fail problems.

2. The iPad is dumb.

3. I lasted 6 days on my New Year's resolution.

4. My official end date at work is 05/28. I'm trying to get it bumped sooner because I've got a pretty good job prospect that is starting to line up and I want my severance. I'm playing coy in terms of blogging about it until things are more solid. But I'm hoping in a couple weeks I'll have my transition all planned out.

5. I tried to "forefoot run" today. It's basically an alternative style of running where you lead with your body and land on your toes instead of your heels. It's supposed to be better for you and more inclined to how our bodies were designed to run - like barefoot running. We'll see how bad my calves hurt tomorrow.

6. I signed up for CoD MML. Who's running this business? Soup? When's it getting started? I haven't played shit for games in a while. Maybe this will get me on my box more...

7. We got a new fish for the 90 gallon. This shot is a little dark, but he's a "Lawnmower Blenny." He'll eat all the fuzzy green algae in the tank. Interesting looking fish and he sort of "hops" around the bottom of the tank. I SO hope the eel doesn't eat him. He's pretty close to being bite-sized. So far so good. We also got a cool star-fish, but I haven't uploaded pics yet.

Later friends...Woot.

After rereading the above, that was kind of confusing. ;-) Yes, running more on the front of the foot as opposed to the heel is good. That is all.

Darth - the starfish is actually Dean's. Still wanna see it? Fade - I'm only talking technique (less heel-strike) - not shoes or barefoot or any of that. I think we're on the same page...

I think Dean would be the perfect Thelma to your Louise. I smell a crime spree. So Chibi comments about the starfish, but not about getting on your box? That's why we should kick the illegals out of the country.

I was in an accident one time and my insurance card had expired. They didn't suspend my license but I would have had to post a bond of $3000 if I didn't get proof in insurance to the court. You better believe I got it there. But I like what you're doing, makes you seem a little dangerous you outlaw you. Good luck with the running thing. Ran with Slayer Monday and not over the soreness yet.

Forefoot running is a fad and will quickly dwindle. As soon as you see it on top world athletes can you consider it worth looking into. Just my opinion. ;)

Fade - from what I've been reading, over-padded running shoes are the fad. Humans have been running barefoot for years longer than with shoes. And, I believe most of the athletes are forefoot runners. Especially the Kenyans that grew up running barefoot.

Tara, I guess it depends on how I interpret "forefoot". If you are talking about actually running barefoot, or with something like 5 finger shoes, the vast majority of official sources will tell you its a fad, and that the jury is still out on whether or not it is more efficient or less likely to injure you. Harvard performed a study recently which showed that working on forefoot running on grass can have benefits, but on hard surfaces is a no-no. If I interpret it in that you are attempting to quit heel-toe striking, then yes that is inefficient and will lead to injuries. Sources that extoll the virtues of barefoot running always fall back upon the African runners and where they got their start and they use barefoot running as their single point of evidence rather than the fact that children from those countries were forced to run 5-10 miles a day to school or that elevations helped develop a higher red blood cell count. Overall, the more you can avoid heel slapping the more likely you will avoid injuries associated (and the more the person racing next to you will appreciate not hearing the "slap-slap" of your feet. However, until I see those at the top of the sport embracing it by going barefoot in actual races, I will call it a fad. Neither top Americans nor top Kenyans/Ethiopians compete barefoot. To be fair, athletic shoes are a beast...and the industry promotes technology that I would agree are fads. Maybe I just read more into it than you were saying. Improving technique to become less of a heel striker is good work.
