Party Planning Part II

Dean decided what he wants for his birthday.

This!

It's a Can-Am Spyder Semi-Automatic, 3 wheeled "motorcycle". Clearly, I can't afford this so he was joking when he asked for it. At best, I'll let him trade in my scooter towards the purchase since I really just don't use it anymore now that I work downtown. I was thinking of selling it anyway -but the reality is that I'm too busy and lazy to even deal with that.

We're in negotiations. Boys and their toys. He's been up at the motorcycle shop twice this week - not a good sign. I think I'll talk him into waiting at least a year and saving as much money towards it as possible (and secretly hope the bug has passed by then)...His company was just bought out. There's little risk of him losing his job and he is probably the least expendable of his group, but still - that's a foolish time to take on extra expenses no matter how untouchable he feels having 18 years in with the company.

I watched my mom get laid off from her company of 32 years and not see a dime of severance (and she found out over the phone). I've watched 90% of the senior staff at my company "decide" to "pursue other opportunities" and be replaced and now others are "pursuing other opportunities." I had survived 3 yearly rounds of lay-offs in my own department at one of my past jobs - each one getting a little closer to me. I'm cautiously optimistic, but not stupid or naive about being a number.

I hope my mom wins the lottery one day. I don't buy tickets so it's hard to wish for me winning. But she does buy them and she'd hook me up if she won. And then I would buy Dean that snowmobile-motorcycle-scooter thing.

Oh - and suck it tax day! You're paying us back this year Uncle Sam - no check for you!

One of the guys in my motorcycle riding club got one the first year they were available. I think it comes down to a simple question. Can you shift gears? If so, 2 wheels are better than 3. Unless, like Poonga stated you like the snowmobile feel. My friend loves his, and enjoys showing it off. They do look cool. I got back into motorcycling after an 8 year break and I only regret one thing... that it took me 8 years to remember how much I love to ride. No matter how bad the day, or how mean the boss. When the wind hits my face, I am young again, and being young, I don't have a care in the world.

I've been asking for a Harley for years. Apparently I have to buy my wife a horse before I can terrorize my neighborhood on two wheels. Can't afford either one, so both remains out of the question. I was recently looking at big wheels for adults. They're basicly really cool tricycles for big people. Kind of the same thing he wants, except with pedals.

layoffs... big boo. I'm a lucky girl working for the Feds... And yep: you nailed it... being at a job forever means nothing. They cut little boxes, not the people in the boxes.

Those bikes are sweet, I almost bought one when gas was an obscene amount of money. Plus you do not have to get a motorcycle license (at least here in Cali) for drive them. They also qualify for the carpool lane, which requires a minimum of 2 people in your vehicle or be a vehicle with less then 4 wheels. They were running around 16k over here.

I was able to drive a prototype. It literally is a snowmobile on wheels. I hope they improved the steering over the prototype. http://www.2old2play.com/Blog/Comments/4084/13654

If you can keep getting him to push it off, he'll eventually get over the whole motorcycle bug. I had my eye on a motorcycle for, oh, the past 5-8 years, but this year came to the realization that I have too much going for me to risk my neck on one. So, I compromised and got the new sports car instead. :)
