Shared on Fri, 06/04/2010 - 07:37It's my first week on the new job. It's amazing how draining it can be to learn a new company, meet a ton of new faces, and just get acclimated in general (like - where the fuck do I go for lunch?)
The first day was bittersweet - it sunk it that my old job is actually done. The work, whatever - it's just work. It's the friends I made that I'm really going to miss. When you know you're getting laid off 6 months in advance there are a lot of happy hours, long lunches, and bullshit sessions in cubes. I got to know some of my coworkers better in a few months than I had in the prior year and half of working with them.
But enough of my pity party - I'm super fortunate that I was able to start a job day 1 of being laid off and to collect some nice severance benefits to boot. I stressed for months trying to get everything to work exactly to plan and it did. WooT! Now I just need to get some of my friends jobs at my new company.
I'm tired as fuck of seeing the BP oil spill coverage. It makes me so mad when I see the pictures of the animals covered in oil. Sad, actually. If anyone knows of any good organizations that are specifically targeting help in that effort - drop a comment. Otherwise, I'm going to do some more googling today. As for Facebook - here's my new profile picture:
In gaming news - I played the new maps last night. I love the trailer park. I love the wealth of new jokes it allows me when I'm playing with my good friend Bama. "Oh, look Bama. I'm in your house!"
I really hate that IW makes people play retarded game types though...How many days until they make the switch to add the new maps to the deathmatch playlists? Soon please...
