Suspended License...sigh

Turns out I've been driving with a suspended license since September of 2007. woops!

Timeline of ass-fuckery due to dumb-ass mistake:

May 2007 - I pay my tabs online - $104

Early June 2007 - I receive my tabs in the mail, shove the envelope in my purse so that I remember to put them on my license plate.

August 2007 - I get a ticket that says I have no proof of tabs when I was parked somewhere. I yell bullshit because I know I paid for them. I look at my license plate and they're not there. WTF? Were they stolen? I go home, dig through a couple purses and find an envelope, unopened, with tabs in them. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

September 2007 - My birthday. I take off work, I go to the courthouse in Minneapolis so that I can tell them of my stupid mistake and show the proof that my tabs really were paid for prior to the expiration date and the date of my ticket. The line is full. It will take HOURS to wait in line. I go to the booth where you pay and ask what my chances are of getting out of the ticket. Lady is totally unhelpful and says I just have to wait in line. It's my birthday and I'm super crabby at this point. The ticket specifically says "failure to show proof" so I figure I'm probably fucked and just pay the $115 ticket and the $30 late fee. I go on my way, pissed.

August 2008 - I get a letter in the mail saying that my license is about to expire and that I need to go renew it before my birthday. BUT - I can't renew it unless I reinstate it because it has been suspended. WTF? Why would my license be suspended? Did someone let me drive in Chicago last weekend? I call the DMV and they tell me I never paid my tabs ticket from last year and so they suspended my license. Livid. I print out my bank records, highlight my $145 payment to the county and walk my ass to the Government center on my lunch in 86 degrees. Turns out I was like a day late paying my ticket so I should have paid $25 additional to reinstate my license at the time I paid my ticket. Did the lady at the counter fail to tell me? Or was I so pissed off that I didn't hear her? Hard to say after 11 months.

So as of today, I'm a legal driver again. I'm so glad I haven't gotten pulled over in the last year....And I'm a terrible driver. I've probably been pulled over 15 times in the last 10 years. I kind of drive fast.

PS - Digg this shit! Digg it.

My wife got pulled over for the first time in 22 years. Luckily here we can go to 'traffic school' and it doesn't get reported but you waste an entire saturday . it sucks. I seem to always get pulled over too. Last time though i argued with the cop because he said i ran a red when i went through on a yellow without speeding up. It was still yellow when i made the turn left at which time i culdn't see the light any more but apparently i hadn't cleared the intersection by the time it was red and the damn cop pulled me over. So i argued with him and he let me go. I wasn't having any of that.

I drive fast as well, which is why I pay close attention to all the crap I can get in trouble for outside of speeding :-) Always keeping tabs on registration, license, etc. As the last thing I need is to get pulled over and have all that dragged out! Last time I got a ticket it was for tailing a cop ;-) Although I don't believe it was really tailing, he said I need to be 2-car lengths behind when his lights are flashing, I say "well, we're both on the exit" thinking "should I have fucking stopped to let you get a good lead and kill myself on the offramp?" I hate cops :)

I'm a much better driver now that I sold the Cobra...350hp and a top speed of 202mph(not those pansy kph) and I got a warning for going 27 in a 25 zone ....cops loved that car.

Lucky you didnt get pulled over. In a lot of places, they'd have issued a warrant for that infraction, and in some places they might have even come to your house to arrest you...nothing says "neighborhood outcast" like being walked down your driveway in cuffs. ;D

Thanks so much for the xbox.com referral! and the Diigg link! Wished I would have had a chance to meet you formally at the LAN, but I'm blaming XS for monopolizing 3 hours of my time with that darn FFA tourney! But there's always next year!
