Two Mini-Rants

Why is it always more fun to blog when you have a rant?

Rant 1 - Emailing up. It's douchey and career-limiting (I think). Everyone knows what these are. Someone is pissed off at you so they email you, your boss, your boss's boss, your boss's boss's boss and so forth. Most of the time these are backfires. The person was wrong, retarded or didn't know what they were talking about. I got one of these and someone actually used the word "castrated" in it to describe the changes my project brought to the application she uses. She just didn't know what button to click. And in my pettiness I searched and found that she didn't complete training. Sigh.

I have a friend that has a way better example though. He's a unix admin for a huge medical device company. A big-wig doctor had a printer problem. He emailed the whole damn IT department straight to the top. The printer was out of paper. My friend replied all to let him know after the doctor demanded he get all the details about how the problem was resolved, what steps were taken, and blah, blah, blah. Awesome.

Rant 2 - I've been taking the early morning bus lately. I do that to get to work early because the hours between 6-9 are really the only time you can get solid work done. The rest of the day is littered with meetings and people stopping by asking "do you have a minute?" (As a side rant, you can't say "No" to these. The one time I tried, my co-worker just kept talking anyway. Sigh 2.) Anyway, back to the bus. It's like an unwritten rule that you be quiet on the bus. You dont talk to people. If you do, it should be with "6-inch voices."

My super scientific observation has determined that the earlier the bus, the louder and more talkative its riders. This makes no sense! People should be tired and sleepy. My bus time is my sacred reading time. I get about 100 pages in a day on the bus. Some fuckers this week wouldn't stop talking (almost yelling) about pure bullshit. So instead of getting swept away in my book I had to listen to how divorced woman deserve everything from the ex-husbands because they "put up with them" through the marriage. Shut the fuck up you old, out-of-touch hag! I'm trying to read. That's what I wanted to say. I didn't. But I wanted to. After more thought, these people must be on the early bus because they're "morning people." Fuck em. I just want to read and get my work done.

Happy fucking friday. You all deserve it.

okay... the first rant = teh funnies. Second rant: I'm the person who strikes up a conversation with people in the elevator... but even I am quiet on a bus at "oh dark thirty" (that's Daddy Military speak for really early in the AM)

I think your gamertag should be Hatenighter instead of me. Im jealous you can voice your anger with such clarity, disdain with just the right pinch of comedic touch.

I get those emails all the time... from customer's emailing up the chain to the CEO because they didn't like my answer :P. Such is the world in which we live. If you're in the right then you just got some free positive visibility with upper management.

I live in a college town, so a high percentage of people on the bus are students. In the morning, they are all cramming for some test or something. At the end of the day is when they are noisy. Very noisy.

I feel you on taking the bus thing. I have many horror stories from public transportation as well as many pet peeves! About a week ago there was a man on the bus pretending to be a wizard. He would make hand gestures and "swish" noises like he was casting spells on people =/

100 pages a day on the bus? Shit, how long IS your commute? Or are you one of those freaky speed readers? :) Do you have any headphones/earphones that are good at cutting out ambient noise? Maybe wear those (without actually listening to any music) while you read. (Or wear earplugs... but then that might get a ton of weird looks your way). Or wear earphones and listen to something soothing/ambient, like rain in the forest, or ocean sounds or something.

Jedi - I don't read fast. It's just that everyone else reads slowly. The headphones are a good idea. I probably wouldn't want to listen to music, but maybe some of that ambient shit...

I deal with people who pull that crap on the first email...I'm lucky enough to have supervisors who get really pissed about it and take it out on the emailer's supervisor... public transportation? what's that? all we have is that occasional urinal on wheels that services about a 4 block radious around the capital building....
