And We Are Here Because . . .

We want to get away from this faceless, unisex "Timmy", the scourge of online gaming. Hmmm. What are the characteristics of a "Timmy"?

1. Use of profanity regardless of who is in the room.

2. Glitching and other forms of cheating.

3. Taunting; bragging of gaming prowess.

4. Singing; making odd sounds.

5. Intentional friendly fire.

6. Younger than 25 by our definition as a group, but pre-teen the most despised.

7. Get mad and "take their toys and go home.

You get the picture, although your. definition may be slightly different.

Next question. . .do you ever see or display these behaviors online? You know, most of the people in our community behave as adults. But, my friends, there are those amongst us that are no different than the ones we attempt to avoid, except they are chronologically older. Good natured ribbing, the occasional expletive when one's head is removed, perhaps by a teammate, these things don't bother me.

But I'm going to be totally honest with you. I have played some kids that have much better manners and more respectful of feelings than some 2old2play folks.

Have I witnessed this kind of behavior? Yes, and much more frequently than I'd like. Do I mess up? Sure, we all do.

All I'm suggesting is that we are careful not to evolve into that which we are supposedly trying to escape, And, guess what? All younger gamers don't fit into the stereotype we label them with. The one's that act like jerks . . .where do you think they pick that up? Just something for thought.

I always take issue with generalizations. Yeah I have encountered young gamers with good manners and older gamers with none. Bottom line you choose your friends.

It sometimes happens in the best of groups. And yes, even among the 25 and up. The overall tendency is better here and often, when folks are chided for acting like a 'Timmie', they will stop behaving like one. So overall, I'm still glad I'm here!

Me too. Just food for thought. This is a great place, but I have played in a couple of rooms where the atmosphere was not so great. Not recently; I'm on the road.
