Shared on Mon, 06/18/2007 - 19:46Weird. Since I've been on vacation, I haven't had time to write very much. The youngest daughter is getting married this weekend. I don't know who has been thrown out of the house the most - me or the dog. I think I might just move in with him til this blows over. The inlaws and outlaws are all headed this way, which is not a bad thing. I went out Sunday afternoon and bought what amounts to a western cut tux jacket, a white tux style shirt, a "Wild, Wild, West" type of tie, a pair of Wrangler boot cut blue jeans that I'm going to send to the cleaners to be starched and pressed. . . if I could play a guitar, I'd be ready for a music video. I normally don't wear western style stuff much, but the daughter is a cowgirl. Under a way-to-expensive dress, she's wearing white boots with Texas A&M stitched into the tops in maroon. Aggie to the bone.
I spent all day today working at one of my sites; dusting, retagging, rearranging . . .it makes a difference. Sometimes you can have a piece of furniture in a particular place for months, and it will not sell. Then you can move it six feet under different light, different angle, different accent pieces, and BOOM, it's gone. Some dealers just don't get that part. Repeat customers come in, and if your stuff looks like the same you had the last time they were in, they won't bother to look. Ideally, you want to change your look weekly. It's a lot of work, but I enjoy it. I sell a lot of my stuff while I'm there sometimes. I wheel and deal with people. I sold something for $100 yesterday that I paid $75 for . . . at least two years ago. It was a good attention getter, but just wouldn't move. So I get my money back, and try something else. Too many people are very proud of their stuff. If it's rare, I stick to my price, but if it's just old but pretty common, shoot it out the door, make a few bucks. . .I aim for high volume rather than huge profit on one thing. It works for me. I don't run a museum, and I'd rather not have to move it or dust it more than once or twice.
I am selling on ebay for the first time ever, and it's much simpler than I had imagined. I only put one small item on, but I've already gotten six bids. Of course the starting price was .99, and it's currently up to a whopping $5.25. But I paid like fifty cents for it, and you turn one item into 20 - 30 a week, and it adds up. You have to have a feel for what to buy, but most of all your written description influences your success. My sister is a pro at it.
The dog is lonely, so I need to check myself into the kennel. It's a dog's life.
See ya online.
