This morning I got up, and as usual, checked Craig's List to see what was going through. An ad had just been posted for some vintage and reto furniture, so I called, stumbled into and out of the shower, shaved most of my face, and hit the road. What I bought was a vintage armchair with white vinyl cover, a vintage card tale with four chairs, and a lamp. The chair is very clean, and I would keep it, but most of my house is furnished with late 1800s up to 1930s stuff. Chairs don't usually sell well for some reason, but this one is different. If it doesn't go, I'll put it in the closet and have somewhere to sit when I lock myself in there. The card table is not so different, but the chairs that go with it are very cool. The backs have metal rods running across the back instead of what we see today, and the legs fold in from the sides. Very hard to describe, but very unique. Now the lamp, all I can do is tell you to think Jetsons. It's tall, and the switch is a wooden donut type thing that slides on the central pole. I gave $65 for the lot.
The coolest part of this whole thing was that this guy restores pianos. I have never given it much thought, but the construction of pianos is quite amazing. He had a warehouse full of them in various stages of renovation. It reminded me of what it may look like to stumble upon the skeleton of a dinosaur. The pieces were massive. I don't play at all, but I wish those of you that do could have seen his operation.
I know, more ramblings from a madman. But like my favorite T-Shirt says,"I Live in My Own Little World, But That's OK. They Know Me Here". By the way, I thought some of you may like to know the difference between antique, vintage, and retro. Most things people call antique are nowhere near it. The link at the top takes you to a site that gives you a quick and dirty set of rules.
Later!
