Today I hit IH 82 out of Sherman, Texas. I had read about this antique place in Nocona called "Two Blondes". How could you lose? Well, the shop itself was a bust, but one of the owners owned the Diamond Cut Jean Company which was housed in the same complex. I had never heard of them, but she offered me the employee discount if I liked the jeans. I bought five pair. I wear a 33x36, and you can't find half sizes in retail outlets. So either my eyeballs are poppin' out, or my crotch is at about knee level. They sell mainly to mom and pop type stores because it's hard to compete with Levis, Wranglers and all the big dogs. I believe the website is diamondcutjeans.com.
Now the bonus was that both outfits are housed inside the old Nocona Boot Factory. If you aren't a Texan or wearer of boots, this won't mean much. Nocona's boot division apparently was bought out by Justin. They continue to make baseball gloves, football helmets, and other sports gear. I never even knew they made anything besides boots. There was a museum there, and on exhibit were several gloves signed by various baseball legends. They had a football helmet that Jack Crain wore while playing at UT. It turns out he was from Nocona, which I also did not recall
Several of the shops down the stretch were closed on Monday. One town, St. Jo, appeared to be shut down completely. In Muenster, Texas I found a pretty cool place, but the second high point of the day came in Gainesville. There is a place there called simply "Fried Pie Company". Folks, if you ever get to North Texas, you gotta look this place up. I got an apple fried pie. These things are unbelievable. I'm glad I don't live closer.
Then at the end of the day, I found out I had sold some sterling pieces and some Desert Rose china.
Tomorrow, Jefferson, Texas, which is in the opposite direction. Wednesday, I gotta go home.
By the way, there is a radio station in Dallas call 96.7 Texas Twister. I heard it on the radio and thought maybe the law was lookin' for me.
