Twister Rips Through Texas

Man, I have been on "vacation" since Wednesday. I ned to go home and get some rest. In addition, I miss my gaming!

I got up at 4:00 AM Wednesday and drove to Canton, Texas for Canton Trade Days. It officially starts on Saturday, but people from the midwest and other areas start to roll in on Wednesday morning. If your're looking for antiques and other cool stuff, this is when you go. These people generally are broke and eager to make some cash for room and board, etc. I've got three different people that I like to buy from because they know me and know if they will work with me on prices I will leave them with some cash. Although not the most productive trip I've made, I still found some great "stuff".I bought a white painted vanity for 25 that should bring 125. I found an old tool box from around the 30s or 40s. I also bought some old vanity sets, the hood off of a very old tractor (I sell a lot of this kind of stuff to restraunts, etc.}

That night I drove into East Texas, spent the night with a friend, and did an appraisal of a very large collection of glassware. This lady had some wedgwood plates from the 1800s worth between 350 - 500 EACH! I've never seen that much really great stuff under one roof. There was one Murano glass egg I appraised at between 500 - 600. I was doing this as a favor, but I ended up taking 3-4 boxes for my work. They insisted, so what could I do? I didn't get the great stuff, but I got most of the things I could actually sell. Selling a plate for 300 is not an everyday transaction. The hardest part was that much of it was in the attic which was hot and about two feet shorter than I am. I had a blower fan rigged up bringing in air from the house. It still was slow work.

Last night I drove to the Dallas area, and lo and behold, there was a great little country auction we went to. The coolest things I found were three full boxes of mint baseball cards from the 70s and 80s, and very cool old arcade game. It is old and non-functioning, but has awesome graphics. I got other stuff, but I honestly can't remember all of it.

Can't wait to get home - I am tired, and my thumb is twitching!
