Working Out

I have been working on losing weight since February and so far it's going ok. I've lost 45lbs and I would like to lose at least 30 more. Sounds like a lot to lose I know, and no I never looked like I was that big because I am so tall. I just don't like the shape I am in and in order for me to start working out to rebuild my muscles and reshape my figure I need to first lose the weight. Once I start working out I will gain weight back because I tend to bulk up like guys do.

I am not your typical skinny girl, I have always been "built". I ran track, did dance team and color guard. I was always in shape up until I had my bad car wreck. After that I just kinda went down hill. I am hoping to get back to what I was before the wreck.

Now to the questions...We live in the middle of NO WHERE! There aren't any health clubs or gyms around here. I have a tread mill that I don't like to use cause I'd rather walk outside. I also have an Ab Lounge and something I purchased a few years ago called the Lateral Thigh Trainer. I just don't have the energy to work out once I get home, and i have such a hard time sleeping at night that it's difficult for me to get up early. Any suggestions? Something that would be fun and yet good for my workout? Going out dancing would be great if I had anywhere around here to go. Dancing at home just isn't the same, it's just not as fun to dance by yourself in the living room. Suggestions PLEASE!?!?!?

Thanks,
Ice

45 lbs! way to go! Im the same as you. Im tall so I hide it well, but I would love to lose it just the same, I bulk up like crazy if I do any weight lifting. I love my work out videos, find one you love and it makes it easier. Oh, and listen to Jcat and Enemy. Good luck losing the rest!

You could try Isometrics with Smoke, all you need is a towel. We used to do it in the army, it works well if you have no equipment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isometrics

isometrics is good. got a punching bag? I've been doing that for a week or so and its a good workout. I blast some Static X on the boom box and go to town. If you have a PS2, Dance Dance Revolution is an AWSOME workout. all that jumping around does wonders.

My wife uses HipHop Abs. It's a DVD series that she bought from TV. She loves it and does it almost two hours a day. I think this is it: http://www.beachbody.com/jump.jsp?itemID=239&itemType=GATEWAY

I lost 70 lbs with weight watchers. I walk a lot, but truthfully , I just really monitored what I ate. Good luck; sounds like you are doing great!

The best home gym is the bowflex, it is a bit pricey, but I am amazed at the workout I get! I also prefer to do chin ups, pull ups and dips at home; nothing builds muscle faster. Good luck!

Whatever you do, make sure to incorporate cardio. Ya gotta get that heart rate up. Not only will you lose weight, but you will also live longer.

Thanks everyone! I like the DVD Series idea, as per the bowflex I don't think I could put that thing together without getting pissed and throwing it out the door lol :) And the isometrics looks good to, I will have to talk Smoke into that one! :)

Diet and exercise is the key to losing weight and getting healthy. I like to get out on the mountain bike and do a few miles. It is great if traffic forces you off the road/trail/path (maybe not a problem out in your section of the sticks). Another great workout is from an elliptical trainer. No/Low-impact so it is easy on our old joints, and it works both arms & legs. Also great for when the weather doesn't permit outside activities.

When I was pregnant we had to watch my blood sugar like a hawk due to gestational diabetes. I ate 6 times a day (3 meals plus snacks). the trick to that is not to have 3 full meals plus snacks, but 3 smaller meals plus healthy snacks. Kept my sugar from dipping too low or getting to high (really important for feeling good). Keep in mind I was working full time and 7 months preggers at the time! The diet I was on was very strict and was given to me by a dietician. It's really different than what you would want to go with if you were trying to loose weight, but it got us really looking at labels of food. I encourage you to just check out what a serving size actually is. It's scary how much extra we eat! Since I was eating all the time, I was never hungry even though each meal wasn't that much. For instance breakfast was one slice of toast and 3 slices of turkey bacon. Not much, but I was eating again in 1.5 hours, so it wasn't a problem. So with the food part taken care of, the next was exercise. We walked every single day, 2 or 3 times a day for 20 mins at a time and never, not once did we skip our walk. We even got up earlier in the morning to walk after breakfeast. The thing is, it's only 20 mintsyou aren't all sweaty, (OK it's summer so maybe you will be) point is: you don't need to go all out if you are going to walk for 20 mins. You are having difficulties sleeping: I bet you anything a walk at night will calm and relax. I have a yoga DVD: you may want to try that at night to relax you. Yoga also stretches and strengthens! The trick: willpower. We went walking every day including Christmas and New Years and never not once did I cheat on my diet. Result: I lost a bit of weight during the pregnancy, while the baby gained. It's 6 months after Erica was born and I'm about 25lbs lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight, and about 50lbs lighter overall. Hope that helps!

Nordic track... That thing just melts the pounds off you if you put the effort into it.

As a dietician and personal trainer I'd say listen to what J-Cat says, she's got it right! Here's some more useful tips: 1. When you do have the time, throw in a walk over 60 min. At first when you start walking you burn more carbs than fat, after 20 min you burn more fat, after 40 min it's even more effective! This does NOT mean that a 20 min walk isn't good!!! Just a tip! 2. Drink a glass of water before EVERY meal. 3. DON'T skip breakfast. 4.If you start the day by eating GOOD fat, (fish,avocado...) you sort of set the body to burn fat instead of carbs. 5.Lower your daily carbs intake. Tip: skip carbs one meal a day! That does NOT mean stop eating carbs entirely. Atkins is not the way to go. Fact: We eat toooooo much!!! It's as simple as that! How much should you eat? What should I eat? When should I eat? What should I avoid eating? All this, a dietician knows. If you like climbing, indoor/outdoor I higly recommend it. Crazy fun and a low intensity fat burner!!! But if you can, get someone to help and motivate you on your way!!! Make a bet with a friend, involve your partner, weightwatchers, personal trainer or dietician, when the going gets tough it's imprtant to have support!!! Best of luck! Enemy

GO get you a really good bicycle. Find a group to ride with. I love riding mine and i lost 50 pounds in a summer. Unfortunately I gained it all back when i hurt my back at work and laid up all winter, but i am back on track and loosing. I do a MS150 every year which is a 150 mile bicycle ride over two days. I burn 10,000 Calories in 2 days. When I say a bicycle I dont mean one from walmart. Go to a bike store and let them fit you for one. trust me everyone I know who started to ride absolutly loves it. I am doing 20-30 miles a day. about and 1-1.5 hours.
