Coming early next year, 2011, the video site Hulu plan on releasing a service that one can pay monthly, roughly $9.99 a month, to view different TV shows on the Xbox 360. The site already provides the service for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and other devices. Sony’s PS3 will be receiving the service soon, but I saw nothing on the site to suggest that the Wii will be getting it, sorry Nintendo fans.
Considering I hardly watch regular TV anyway, it will be nice to know that I have an option of watching my favorite shows like The Office, Family Guy, and Grey’s Anatomy at my leasure. Hulu will be providing TV shows from ABC, NBC, and FOX. You can watch such favorites like the ones I mentioned before and others like 30 Rock and X-Files.
I like the idea of all different kinds of services that are being provided on the Xbox 360’s live service like Facebook and ESPN, for example. However, I’m starting to notice a trend with some of these other services. Netflix and Hulu, for instance, want to charge monthly fees. Now, I understand that you can’t expect to get movies and excellent quality streamed TV shows for free, but with all of these services available, my wallet will start to look smaller than it already is. Question: What if a subscriber to Xbox Live paid more than the $50 a year and pay, say, $70, or even $90 a year for all inclusive Xbox Live, Netflix, Hulu, and any other service that came available? Would you do it?
I would! I mean unlimited movie streams from Netflix run you about $9 a month and Hulu’s service will cost you $10. Add that to the $50 you are already spending for Xlive and it’s costing close to $70, anyway. Now, I added more since we live in a capitalistic world and everyone wants their money, I got that. However, it might save us subscribers some money down the road if and when other companies come over to the gaming world to offer their services on Xbox Live. Just a thought, but what do you think?
