Did some searching today for the new Xbox 360 slim to see if there has been any new developments since it’s launch after Microsoft’s E3 conference. Low and behold I find some interesting sites and claims of a new appearance to the same problem that the older Xbox 360 was getting. Allegedly, the new slim version has been having some -- you guessed it -- heating problems. Only this time instead of receiving the dreaded red ring of death it is now called the red dot of death.
Now I know Microsoft made some changes in hopes to remedy this problem by adding more vents and covering both the CPU and GPU chips with one heat sink and giant fan. So far I have only seen one report, but God only knows if there are more out there. Microsoft has supposedly responded by saying, "We couldn't be more proud of the consoles we are building now, as well as the new Xbox 360. This console is the culmination of years of continuous innovation in design, testing and learning. Today we are confident we are shipping a high quality product." Now, I couldn’t find an “official” Microsoft site that has made this claim, so take this news with a grain of salt.
I plan on buying one of these machines later on, but I am really skeptical until some time has passed to see if any more mechanical, or software bugs exist. I’m on a fixed budget, so I can’t just throw out $400 for something that will break after an all night gaming session of Modern Warfare 2. This begs the question, then, have any of you 2old2player’s that have gone ahead and bought the slim Xbox have had any heating problems, or have received this error message? I really hope this is an isolated incident and not just another diabolical scheme by Micro$oft to scam more money. Pictures below as well as the source websites for your viewing and surfing pleasure.
