Into the Third Dimension

Coming into the summer, my wife is out of school for the summer and home with the kids.  Last night out of nowhere she says she would like me to look into buying a 3D TV!!!!  What?!?!?  She had to repeat herself, because she usually just flows with whatever tech I buy her or install in the house.  Now I'm not one to turn down a new tech toy and our TV' while still in great condition is about 5 years old.  So now I've been doing some research today on the limited number of 3D Televisions on the market and I believe I will end up going with Samsung, as Sony and I had a falling out over my last television after they had in for repair for 4 months, just after buying it.  I believe I will probably buy the 3D TV / Blue Ray combo at Best Buy as you get 2 free pair of glasses and movie with it.  Now I still need to buy another 4 pair of glasses at almost $800 to have plenty for the family and guests.

I have a few questions though if anyone could help me out?  Is 3D more effective or better on a Plasma screen or the LED - LCD screen???  Different sites say different things.  Now this is the TV I will be using for gaming as well so that matters to me also.  The cost difference is minimal.  Is there anything else I should know, or that I'm forgetting???  Leave me comments or PM me if you have suggestions or answers.

My wife's timing really works out as I was wanting to try out Killzone 3 in 3D, whenever it comes out.   Also, they are supposedly showing up to 25 World Cup games in 3D this summer.  GOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!!!!!  Sony and Samsung say they can upscale some 2D television to 3D as well.  Wonder how effective that is???  I'm kind of excited as I usually have to bring tech ideas to my wife and she picked this out.

Have you seen one in person yet? They are pretty impressive, however, they are not impressive enough for me to go out and spend almost 4k on a 40" tv and glasses and a new set top box to accept the 3d signals and the extra service cost whatever that may be. I'd rather spend the $$ on a 55" LED. Just my $.02

If i were in the market for new A/V stuff, i'd be buying LED now. But i think this 3D stuff is just a fad and is going to go out as fast as it came in. SO make sure whatyou buy works properly for 'normal' stuff too.
