Knew that would happen!!!!! So now going on almost two weeks with my bedroom doubling as the living room for the kids. That's sucks!!!!! They bring every toy etc...... into my room and leave them there. AAAARRRGGGG!!!!!!! Lots of extra cleaning up.
So I have been doing lots of work around the house to keep busy when the kids steal the TV for cartoon time. Last night I was cleaning out files in the spare room when I came across lists of names we considered for our children. Now for those that don't know, I have a boy (9) and a girl (4). I glanced over the list of names and thought about how each of my kids got their names. How did you or your kids get their name??? Named after a parent or relative??? Named after a favorite can of soup???
I made a conscience decision some time ago that each of my children would have three names, besides their surname of King, so they wouldn't be bored with one of the names we picked for them, and if they were.............. "get a crash helmet, life's tough". So to start with my son's name is Gabriel August Xavier King. For the easy breakdown, my wife choose "Gabriel", and he was named for Gabriel Byrne the actor, which starred in The Usual Suspects and Trigger Happy (Mad Dog Time). "August" was chosen, my wife thought, at the time, because it was the month we found out he was a boy. NOT THE CASE!!!!! The real answer was told to her after, we got the birth certificate. He got that name from a beer commercial. I liked Augustus Busch name that appeared in a commercial, even though I hate their beer. I thought my wife would never go for it..............she now thinks it's hilarious. "Xavier" is not as grand and not named for "X-Men's" Professor X. I picked up a baby book and flipped it open to Xavier, and we liked it and it stuck!!!!!!
Now my daughter, is named Isabella Siobhan Kiley King. Firstly we asked my son, at the time what name he wanted for his sister, and he picked Luminara (Star Wars Jedi) at the time, so that was on the list along with everything else. Of course, I got to pick what name would be definitively in her name, as a deal made with my wife. I chose "Siobhan" for a couple of reasons. Four years ago it was VERY UNIQUE in the United States, people thought I was crazy to pick that name. I really liked the song "Siobhan" by The Tossers and LOVED Siobhan Fahey, when she was married to Dave Stewart or The Eurythmics!!!! She still is so dark and moody!!!!! "Isabella" was added by my wife because of the "Lunatic Queen" Isabella Siobhan, though the lunatic actually was Queen Isabella Siobhan's daughter. Next we added "Kiley" after much deliberation, and chose it though the name didn't flow for us, which was a play off of Kelley, which was my ex-wife's name. My wife liked this because before I married my ex-wife she wanted to have kids, then suddenly she changed her mind almost immediately after getting married. We hold no ill will toward her, and don't even communicate with her. It was just sort of an inside joke for us, and that final crucial name.
So I pondered last night who else must have chosen names for weird reasons or had odd stories??? So the first people I thought of was the wonderfully weird people at 2o2p! Hey, my name was almost Artemis, named for the character on the Wild Wild West, back in the 60's and 70's. Man I need that TV back!!!!!
