It's not flawless by any means, it actually has some major obstacles to overcome. But is it possible to merge the two?
You see, I'm a creature of progression. Is that even a term anyone has ever used? Before I start digressing, my point is that I like the progression in games. For example, after I got to 85 in World of Warcraft I killed Deathwing through Raid Finder. That was good enough for me, I felt for all intents and purposes I had finished the game. This was a battle a friend of mine and I had many times as he is the hardcore raider. But that was enough for me.
And that's what I feel is missing from multiplayer, the sense of progression. Call of Duty isn't bad, at least you can rank up and unlock things, but you're still playing the same maps over and over. There's no way to avoid if you want any kind of longevity to a game, but maybe if they merged the campaign and the multiplayer together, they could create more maps (dare I say, twice as many?) and maybe you wouldn't play them as frequently.
Let's use Battlefield for example, because it has Rush which is great for this scenario. You see a cut scene (that you can skip if you just want to play multiplayer) that explains a really bad guy (I mean really bad) has kidnapped the chinese emporers poodle. You've received Intel that the bad guy is holding the poodle on Wake Island but it is heavily guarded by the regenade organization that stole the poodle. Your mission is to fly to Wake Island and work your way to the compound the poodle is in. But once you get there, of course the poodle isn't there, the story would be over too quickly wouldn't it. That would be Wake Island: Rush (Offensive).
Next, you hear... I don't know... when you were there someone dropped something very valuable of some sort, and the renegade organization has gotten word it's there and is returning to the island to attempt to get it. Your mission is to return to wake island and hold off the renegade organization while they're able to retreive the valuable item. That would be Wake Island: Rush (Defensive).
No matter who you are you would play the "good guys" but the opposing team would always look like the bad guys to fit the story line. If you didn't win then you'd play it again. Obvious obstacles would be how to add in replayability, for example why would you need to return to Wake Island at a later date? Maybe the Defensive story is that you heard the renegade organization is coming back to the island to reoccupy it and may bring the poodle back at a later date, so you're sent back to set up a military presence that you may have to revisit from time to time when the renegade organization attacks? And you could also attack again if by some chance the renegade group came in and took over before you got there.
Do you think it's possible to merge the Campaign and Multiplayer together in any form or fashion? Or at least add some sort of progression to Multiplayer? What are your thoughts/ideas on how that could be accomplished?
