Shared on Mon, 03/26/2007 - 21:56Started the first day at the rocketshop. They told me to be there at 10am- how's that for cool?
The day was pretty quiet, I've done work for these guys for about a year, so I already knew the guys I'd be working with. As for a corner office, when a billionaire owner of a company has a cube, you're less of a crybaby when you get one, too. Of course, boss man doesn't share one with a Launch Controller that looks like a Sasquatch, but at least my Yeti is quiet.
The guys just got back from 15+ days on Kwaj and hell has broken loose. Nobody to mind the store, so I get to straightening out paperwork immediately and reconciling reports. We've got an audit in about a month and there is a crap load of work to be completed. My job used to be an ancilliary duty, but has now grown into a many-headed monster. At least I won't be bored! But hell, bored at a rocketshop is the place to be bored, right?
If I get too bored I can go play with this stuff called T-tab. One of you chemistry types might know what I'm talking about, but this stuff is pretty nasty. They use it to start the rocket motors. Basically, if this clear liquid sees atmosphere, it bursts into a crazy ass green flame! Want to talk about bringing out the inner pyro.... Don't worry, I'm crazy but not stupid. I'd like to see this stuff in action at a test fire, but I'm not cracking the bung on a drum for my own stupid amusement. Yes, I said bung.
Anyway, pretty neat day and more to come. The only downside was the drive, but I've had to do worse. I'll see about posting some pics soon.
Have a great evening!
