Tried out some paint techniques for a request. 

Desert tan 360, pre-faux finish for weather:

Post treatment, shitty light:

Completed, post second stencil (should have done all the painting pre-treatment, lesson learned.):


 

Not terrible, not great, but I learned quite a bit about paint washes and highlighting of flaws.  I have a dremel set up now, I think I'm going to try and make some industrial looking router cuts- creases around the edges to give them a little more of a hardware look.  Maybe experiment with some hot glue to simulate melting or bullet holes. 

Whatchya think?  Who wants to send me a box for experimentation?

its coming along great. I would suggest using frisket paper to make your stencils with (little to no overspray issues) A good tool I found for making recessed 3D effects is a soldering iron. there are many tips fron needle tip to chisel. when it melts through the plastic it also creates a smooth surface in its wake that needs little to no sanding... Keep going man!

I just took a look at some faux rust techniques. What is funny is they call it faux rust but in fact it is rust. Use an iron paint for the base a quick oxidizer to rust it.

Thanks for the compliments. It was a lot of fun to do. Omega- I might try that the iron, but as an electronics tech, I can't bring myself to put iron to plastic without tearing up. :) I need to buy a cheapo, all my gear is $$$. Maybe some POS from Radio Shack, or a woodburning iron. I'll def look into frisket paper. I'm using contact paper at the moment. and it sucks. Soup - the digi I'd say go with a sticker set up- that pattern would be a bitch to replicate. Std camo I could do, I think. I was talking with LB and thinking of dremeling the Prof logo in a box and plexi'ing it, then LEDing it up. Poonga- I'm digging the rust idea- like a Borderlands/GoW theme...
