Shared on Tue, 09/04/2007 - 11:35to use someone else's blog title. But it fits.
The boy and I had a great weekend and today was his first day of school. We're both a bit freaked out because this is his sixth grade year. We're close to having "the talk", as his development has accelerated. The kids has grown nearly an inch a month for the last year, and he's less that a foot from being as tall as his dear Pops.
Crap. Guess I'd better start looking into the least objectionable (in his mind) method of passing on info. Boo, little boys growing up, Boo!
He's matured over the summer, he's no longer the goofy little kid, he's a goofy big kid. His sense of humor is pretty quick. I love that guy. We're both nervous about his last year of elementary school, but we both agreed that we'd do our best to do our best. Him with his home and classwork and me with not getting terminally pissed about either.
We had a great weekend, even with temps hovering in the 90's at night. VERY hot weather for us here in SoCal. We bbq'd on Sunday with some friends, had some American Bison steaks off the grill. Man, what great chow. We were both seriously hurting from overstuffing ourselves. Our friends had around twenty kids from 3 to 15 years old all running to the neighborhood pools. It was a blast!
The month started right, and after the debacle that was August it was about dang time. We got some of our artwork hung and are seriously on the way to making the place a serious bachelor pad. We just need some cinderblock shelves and we just might have the "fresh outta momma's house" ambience. Can you say framed and autographed Hulk poster over the TV? How about a rocket launch poster over the couch? Star Wars Imperial recruiting litho that was numbered and signed by the artist? Hell yeah, it's a man house.
I had a great run with working on the house as far as injury- I'm always smashing fingers and what not. No stitches this weekend, no minor injuries requiring some first aid. Then I came to work this morning and crack my shinbone on a shipping crate and leave myself some pretty good road rash. Glad not everything changes....
And the coup d'grace of the summer, the boy and I went to the movies yesterday to see Mr. Bean. And had Movie Nachos and Icees for breakfast!
YeeeeHaaaaaw! That's how we finish the summer!
