COD4 gained it's big audience by word of mouth. Like MW2, it was released in November and quickly gained a decent following. Because of the word of mouth, it became one of the big games for Christmas. Thus, for PCP, it spawned the term "Christmas Noobs".
Ahhh, those were the days. Us early adopters had a good 4-5 weeks on those noobs, we knew the maps and had better guns. And thanks to IW's incompetent matchmaking we'd see teams of level 10s going up against level 40s. For a good month or so it was a time of feasting.
MW2 sold 41 million copies in the first week and I don't think 20 million of those were bought for people to keep away for Christmas presents.
Sadly, I think that Christmas Noobs will be a story of legend, never again to be experienced.....
