A co-worker had invited me to play poker last night with some other co-workers and his regular group of poker players.
Now I've watched World Poker Tour, played some free games on PokerStars.com and I don't consider myself a real poker player, but I said what the hell, it's a $20 buy-in, it will be fun just to show up and drink some beer.
I started out winning a couple of early hands and then used my chip leader status to bully the table and dominated the rest of the game. WooHoo! $100 in my pocket.
It ended a lot quicker than expected so we played another $20 buy-in. The game started out the same, I won a couple of hands then started to bully the table but got burned on a bad beat. I had AH 10H, bet big to force out everyone but the guy next to me saw my raise. The flop came QH 5H 7H. Booya! I've got the nut flush! I go all in and the guy calls me. He's got QC 4D. WTF? He called all in with a friggin pair of Queens. Dumbass! So what happens? He gets a 4S on 4th street and 4C on the river to suck out a goddamn full house!
He doubled up and I lost 80% of my stack knocking me down to 6th place (out of 8 ). Now he was the chip leader and proceeded to bully the table the same way I did in the first game. But I played it patient and worked my way back. We ended up being the final two and I managed to be the victor again. Another $100 in my pocket.
As we were leaving my co-worker's regular poker buddy kiddingly said to him "Next poker night don't invite THAT guy!" as he pointed at me. :)
