One expression that confounds me, "Happy as a Lark". I mean, how do you know a Lark is happy? Did someone ask it how its day is going? Maybe its smile (if you can make one out) is painted on like a clown. How did we come up with this? And by the way, what is a Lark? Maybe it is a crack addict and if so, is that the type of happy we want to be associated with?

Good thing I am happy as a pig in mud. Now that is an expression I can understand. Who doesn't like mud?

Lark: To lark about is to play around; to frolic; to go on a SPREE. from the Middle English laik, to play and the Old English lac, a contest. I wonder if they mneant a killing spree?

If I'm not mistaken, a Lark is a bird that sings all the time. And if you're singing you must be happy, right?

Lark is a bird. Like the saying "up with the lark" - I think theres a bird called the Skylark but my ornothology is a bit rusty. oh and we say "happy as a pig in shit" but mud will do to!

God please not another tait. I have to admitt pigs do look pretty happy when their in mud. But I like them better as bacon.
