Anyway, where have I been? Well, I've been working on my sister-in-law's house almost non-stop. She had a bad situation back in late July where her fiance broke up with her and moved out. Since she can't afford her house on her own, she needs to sell, but, to do that, the house needed some work. That's what I've been doing. Some of the projects:
- Put in a new kitchen floor
- Painted 75% of interior
- New screen doors (2)
- Patch and seal driveway
- Tons of landscaping
- a bunch of little shit
So, that's where me and most of my money have been. She'll pay me back when the house sells. Now, why does this monkee have a red neck? Well, the roof of my sun porch is a flat roof. I'm reasonably handy, and have done both peaked and angled roofs, so I tried to fix it myself this spring. It held for awhile, but, I don't know what I'm doing. So, I called in a pro last week. Estimate was WAY higher than I would have thought. Call in another - around the same price. Bottom line? I can't fix it properly myself and the money I'd need to hire a pro is tied up as explained above.
So, what was I to do? I reached deep down into my redneck roots (which must be very deep, because I am second generation Polish), and I went and bought a 10 mil tarp and I put it on my roof, and I used roofing cement/patch to seal it all the way around the existing roof (with 3/4 inch staples helping hold it down and the weight of the wooden railing also helping (did I mention the roof is an upstairs deck as well?)). It's a lovely brown tarp. But, would it work? We were hit with the remnants of Ernesto yesterday. Not a drop inside. Whoo hoo!
So, that's where I've been, what I've been doing, and why this monkee has a red neck.
