Shared on Sat, 10/14/2006 - 00:37I have two more weeks left on the Project That Would Not Die at work. It's not dying, they're just moving me to another project. I have been "on loan" to that project team for 21 months and counting. I guess the loan came due, because I'll finally be working for my actual boss again for the first time in almost two years. This is a good thing. My boss is awsome, as I recall. :)
I was looking at the files I have for this project. It's insane. Almost 1100 filed e-mails. Probably about 9 of them are still actually useful. Then there are the documents I have created myself while working on this project. Almost 200 Word Docs. Around 100 Powerpoints. Almost 350 Flash Files. 8 Excel Spreadsheets. 350 Megs of images (not gonna count 'em). I am one person. There are more than 1000 people working on the various pieces of this project. I cannot imagine how many total files are out there.
Now the person taking over for me has asked "for my files." I can't decide if I'm cruel enough to actually give them to him or not.
The one down side of this is that I will no longer be traveling regularly to Texas. So, no more meet-ups with the Texas OMM. For awhile, anyway.
This is the amusing part though. I have to go to a 4 hour session on how to do my actual job. The processes have all changed so much in two years that I don't know how to do any of the paperwork anymore. I am a man without a project team. I found this out in an amusing way last week when I tried to access the shared drive to look for my new project's notes. That share was gone. It's been gone for a year. I can't access the new one. The Admin for the new one had to call my boss before he'd give me access rights because he'd never heard of me. He's been in his job for more than a year. I should have access Monday.
It's good to be going home......
