So I've been contacting my local Cable Co -- Comcast Inc., to get info on compatibility issues and equipment requirements for the TiVo, if I do decide to go down that path. But everyone I've talked to has just given me the run around, given me conflicting information, or has just plain out and out lied to me. I f***ing hate this company.
Every time I mention I want to use a TiVo, they give the hard sell on their own dvr, and then lie about compatibility issues with their services that don't exist. They make it so hard for the customer to know the facts and make an educated decision. They should know better.
In the end, my frustration with dealing with Comcast led me to reach out to a neighbor who worked there, but not as customer representative, as an installation tech. Guess what he has at home. One guess.....a TiVo. And guess what, he told all the info they gave me was BS. He showed me exactly how to set one up, and what to ask for when you go to their store. It's like you have to belong to a secret society to get anything done if you're a customer. BTW, a neat fact I learned while talking to him is that eventually, sometime around 2012 or sooner, Comcast will start offering DVRs with TiVo built in, or added on as an Upgrade. They're apparently testing it out somewhere in the East Coast. Not sure where. I think it's Maine.
I'm definitely getting a TiVo. Now it's just a matter of size. Small or XL?
I miss my Sony DVR.
It could receive all the Basic and Extended Basic analog channels (83 in all) and even a lot of the HD and Digital channels (including the digital music channels); even though I only subscribed to Limited Basic (25 analog channels), all for just $15 bucks a month. But that free ride has ended. My Sony DVR is dead.
BTW, I believe the only reason Sony and other consumer electronic manufacturers stop producing DVRs was because TiVo successfully sued Direct TV. They don't want to get sued too.
