My first console

I was ten years old. I had already been a gamer for years. It was my birthday, but instead of receiving a game console my father was selling ours. Seventy-five cents for an Atari was a pretty good deal, even for 1991. Pacman, tank pong, and several other classics were shoved into a brown box along with a few controllers for the lowest bidder. I will never forget the guy who bought it from our family yard sale. He was in his mid to late twenties with brown hair and a girl friend in tow. They were both smiling. Maybe it was their first console too.

"I'll give you fifty cents," he proposed with his woman at this side. I cringed a little harder. I had just finished telling my dad that I would buy it from him if I could keep it. This wasn't about the money. In his opinion, it was taking up valuable space.

"It's a deal." He would have given it up for free.

Welcome to the site. Great blog posts so far. I collect classic consoles (currently have 22), write a (semi) regular series of articles called Digital Memories for this site and run a retro gaming store here in MA. If you ever want to grab another 2600, or any other classic console, let me know. I will get you the 2o2p discount. :)

This story makes me cry reading it from your viewpoint. If you told it from the brown haired guy's point it would probably also make me cry, but with happiness.
