Shared on Mon, 09/15/2008 - 10:22Over the weekend, I finally completed the Braid full game speed run. If you haven’t played Braid, you have to. It is truly one of the gems of this generation. The speed run achievement has you completing the full game in less than 45 minutes. The first time through, I got 57 minutes. This is where I started to get obsessed. I actually practiced certain levels that were giving me troubles and tried again. I then managed 46:03. This just pissed me off. See, you can’t stop playing once you start. It consumes 45 minutes of your total concentration, and if you mess up near the end - just start again. After many failed attempts, I got through it in 44:07. Finally!!
Other developers really need to look at this as a model for what an achievement should be. I actually felt like I ‘achieved’ something. None of this, “play a ranked match against a developer” crap. This one is old school, beat the game ‘this’ fast. Just like in elementary school when your asshole buddy called you up to say that he beat Mario Bros. in under 15 minutes.
Now if you'll excuse me I have to go sip my Tim Hortons coffee.... ;)
