Tryouts

I always hated tryouts for school teams when I was a kid. The feeling that some adult was going to judge you and destroy any chance of becoming that pro athlete that you always wanted to be...last night, my son went through this. He was on the 'Rep' basketball team last year. He had a blast, met new friends and travelled all over the Province. He is dying to make the team again this year. Problem is that he has moved up an age bracket and is now on the younger side. He was the tallest kid last year and now is one of the shortest. He did pretty well, and he already knows the plays that the coaches run. We'll see, there are two more tryouts on Saturday and next Wednesday. I hate it, but I guess it's just part of the process.

Just part of the process indeed. But i think it is also a good way to learn about life. Competition, loosing and rejection are good to learn about when they are young, so they learn how to deal with it through life and how to recover and grow from it. That will make him a better person and better capable to handle the challenges of the real world. Today, I think we are creating a generation of fucking entitled pussies. So hopefully your kid going through this kind of stuff now will help him as he goes through life.

Yeah, for sure. I think he takes rejection better than I take his rejection.
