Sony’s PlayStation 3, fondly referred to as PS3, promises to deliver exciting new technology in gaming consoles. Unfortunately, it also promises to be pretty expensive. Sony is currently said to be looking for ways to keep development costs down and pass those savings along to consumers.
PlayStation 3 won’t be out in time for Christmas, but you may be able to get your hands on one by Easter of ‘06, if you can afford it. One of Sony’s smartest moves, which will help consumers justify the price tag, is making PlayStation 3 “backward” compatible. For those who don’t know, backward in this case is a good thing. It means that your PlayStation 2 games and even your original PlayStation games will work with PS3. There are of course plenty of games, both brand new and remakes of fan favorites, in the works for PlayStation 3.
The contemporary design is quite sleek, with controllers that look a bit like brushed chrome boomerangs. The controller will also be wireless. Of course, rival games like Nintendo Revolution and Xbox 360 have stepped up their next generation game console designs as well. All the new systems have a very modern look.
Competing game makers seem intent on trying to gain an advantage over each other, sparring back and forth over which system and games are superior, and continuously attempting to outdo each other in more than just looks. In fact, rumors in the industry suggest that Microsoft, maker of Xbox, may lower the price of the 360 at about the same time PS3 is launched in 2006.
Still, Sony representatives seem far from concerned. They believe the Playstation 3 to be the superior product, and they are confident that consumers will be willing to pay for long recognized Sony qualitiy. If you agree, you can beging looking for Playstaion 3 in early spring
