Shared on Fri, 07/31/2009 - 06:08I guess most see me as too old to play games. In some ways they are correct. I no longer have the patience I once did. I no longer will put up with office politics, project grabbing and blame games or the ever popular I know more than you guessing games. I worked for years in IT. For years I put up with the little lady games. Ones that those who happen to be male play when they feel threatened by another geek. If the geek in question happens to be female some played (and still do) the patronization game. Since I no longer work in IT (try getting a job on tech support or app dev when you are female and over 40) I reserve my gaming for real games.
I started what could be called true gaming in college with tabletop- yep D&D. I moved into computers in the 80's and found door games. Then I found MUDS and never looked back. I still play muds and build for one. Then the MMOS started. I have settled into Guild Wars as my MMO of preference. I prefer their payment structure and the game is almost a work of art graphically speaking. They seem fairly stable and even ran acceptably when all I had was dial up. I am a member of DNOG which is not ALL older gamers but most are at least married with kids. So we do not get bent out of shape if you do not join in each and every event.
So here and on my other blog I will discuss games, game companies. marketing strategies, gamers and gaming. I tend to rant or rave if i am luke warm about something it is not worth wasting my time to write about I could be cleaning out the litter box or a/bing or even coding something that will make the MUDDERs hate me. I will probably piss people off with my blogs. TFB. I am cranky and a gamer and I have consistantly been both for over 30 years. Old is more recent..
